try differnt variations of driver (IE (differnt versions to the one you are using) for the x-fi.

As i have said multiple times now..... the problem was fixed by going to ASIO, which i hadn't thought my x-fi was capable of, due to the lack of 64bit asio drivers on the included CD. They exist on the latest update from creative though.

Also, I realized, the main issue the x-fi isn't reccomended for audio creation, it only has a single stereo input, and its only 96/24. Seeing as all of my audio creation is output only, I should be fine.

With the E-Mu 1212, can I do say, 5 channel recording at a single time? I am interested in eventually getting into some 5.1 or 7.1 recording, but not at the current time.

get a rme UFX , it has both FW and USB , is around 2000€ "only"..... usb/fw, it's all about how the drivers are written, by talented people or not... it certainly outperforms any Sound blaster and other cards wether pci or not, in the number of channels and latency.... unless rme released such a card without working drivers ? :) unlikely....
(ok, i was joking... about the usb vs pci thing....).

ps: don't forget that, at higher sample rates, you may need faster hard drives or raid setup if you have lots of audio and if the pc you have don't follow. or may be more ram, it's possible.
