Now we start to see really big USB memory sticks turning up in shops. Could this be an alternative to USB hard disks for storing music?
They are not overly expensive either.

You could certainly but I would say use something like HD Tach to benchmark your current disk subsystem system and then repeat on your flash drive. You may not be too impressed by the I/O performance then again you may be pleasantly surprised. ;)

Typically memory sticks are faster than most usb 5400rpm hard drives. They are still way too expensive in terms of $/gigabyte.

I ve got an 8 gig usb stick that I use for some gigs, when my DJ partner takes his rig instead of me using my own.
Enough for a set/nights worth of music.

Largest sized usb I ve seen on offer so far is 64gb which was equivalent in price to a WD 320gb usb passport drive, which I opted for instead
