Keep focused on the music and totally nail that before thinking about adding video.

It's probably nice to have a program that handles both but I doubt that Traktor should be like that. Keeping complete control over 4 decks and video control in one program is probably too much.

-1. Now some kind of add on with tight integration would be ace, but at extra cost. I want all of the development budget to be used on the audio side at the mo. Sorry!

I have no experience with video..

But wouldn't it be possible to hardwire a MIDI device double?
To Traktor and Ace at the same time?

Example: give a fader on your MIDI device a double function:

Volume up down deck A Traktor and Intensity(?) screen 1 in Ace.
And use internal MIDI routing to sync the 2?

    Just an idea..

And if not.. use 2 MIDI devices!

VIDEO is done with other programs! Serato's Video is WACK it REQUIRES the EXPENSIVE RANE MIXER! REQUIRES it! so SERATO is OUT as far as I'm concerned, never bought it never will.

I DO MISS TRAKTOR! I own it but it now goes unused because I have switched to VJ'ing in 2009. This is the FUTURE

VIDEO SHOULD BE ADDED to TRAKTOR and in VIDEO MODE limit the decks to just using TWO!

Numark CUE does it, and pretty Well I might add

I believe Serato no longer requires a Rane mixer for VJing as of 1.9.

I should add that I've only really noticed and appreciated the video effects at massive massive gigs eg. The Chemical Brothers at Glasto or Bestival 2008 or the occasional brain melting rave back in the 90s sometime.

None of the venues I play in could accommodate live VJing. The playing of promo videos with songs is plausible I guess (although none of the music I play, along with many other DJs, have promos available for them). And if I'm successful enough to actually consider live VJ elements, the few VJ's I know will actually want to use their own 'Pro' software.

So, in my opinion, the VJing DJ is still quite a niche market. And without taking away from the effect that a good video, disco balls, lasers, smoke machines, drinks promos etc provide, a choon is still a choon, even in the most glitziest clubs, even in the dingiest basements.

Get the audio elements right first.

98% of the music I am playing does not have video.

I have been to a few DVDVDJ gigs, and the crowd was only staring at a screen.
Those gigs were really boring. I have yet to see a successful gig with the technology.

Housemusic is about dancing right? With girls? Interaction?

-1 I want girls looking at me not the big screen.

This is a constantly brought up request and its a fair one BUT i wonder just how many people that request video would actually use it out Live. I mean, just how many of you guys are playing at clubs that have the ability to show video? Or is it just s gimmick that bedroom djs want for the sake of it.
Its a genuine question, im not assuming you dont .
I rarely see a DJ using video unless its a some High Street club playing Beyonce and Girls Aloud which is fine dont get me wrong but i doubt you crazy 4 deck mixologists want video.

-1 It's to much of a hassle to manage everything all in one person. There is a border to where things start to get unpractical. I think if video is important to you it's best to find someone to collaborate with and make up a good mixed DJ/VJ team.

    That was some freaky sh*t.

Those creepy clowns! And those lasers in the rain! Getting shunted out of a muddy field by a big traktor was also a high point!

    [more off topic]
Nope, not this year. Am fed up with the shoddy british weather. Am however going to the Big Chill primarily to see Orbital. And also going to the Garden Festival in Croatia in July, on the recommendation of some mates... what about you?

My friends went to the Electric Elephant which is in the same place as Garden Fest and said it was awesome and the weather was great.

We are going Glasto again, Orbital are still rumoured? Saw them when they last played Glasto (the famous last ever gig that wasnt the last). It was special though. Their doing loads this year.
Gotta say that Glasto was great last year so my faith in it was restored.

    [Sorry again]

I don't think it is a big hassle to mix four decks and incorporate video on your sets. The advent of new technology like Traktor is freeing most dj from the hassle of beatmatching two, three or four songs, so they can use that gained time doing some other things, like getting more creative with thier sets by adding loops, effects or synching to samplers of DWA. Video will be just another aspect for a dj to control and add to their creative repertoire. Most effects and video parameters can be synch or map to existing audio parameters, allowing a dj to be creative with their video while focusing mostly on the music. Most djs get intimidated by video because they find it complex and time consuming, but the reality is that is not as much complex as audio.
By the way if You like the girls looking at you, and you don't like video, well... you haven't seen yourself wiht your name scrolling in a ten feet screen while you are djing! If the girls don't see you, well... you probably not that good looking. You want exposure, video will give exposure.

How do you know? A little presumptuous arent we ?
I dont need my name in 10 foot high letters, they know who i am, thats why they are there.

Ok ill put it another way , i dont want people watching T.V. whilst im DJing . I want them looking at each other , singing and getting into each other.

I know a couple who met on my dancefloor , got it on, ended up married. I see them occasionally and their like "yeah it was you that got us together dude" . Thats great, a bit soppy but sweet.
If Beyonces arse was on a huge screen they might never have met cus he may have been watching it, damn she may even have been watching it. I mean who wouldnt.

Second thoughts, i do want video, i want a 10 foot arse in front of me.

    Meh, video , shmideo.

I don't want to alarm anybody, but after doing the age-old trick of looking at the jobs listings on software company websites to find out what's next on the development schedule (wanted to work in the games industry and this is a great trick), NI have a position open for, and I quote:

"Internship in Conceptual Design, DJ Division with Focus on Video Performance (f/m)"

This has been up for some time as I've been considering going for the Conceptual Design job without the Video focus, but I think this is a sure sign that it's definitely something Native Instruments are considering...
