How can I combine two drums sounds?

    Hi,

I'm using an Alesis DM6 edrum kit with Abbey Road 60's Kontakt. It's great, but I'd like to know if it is possible to combine a high hat and tambourine sound together when hitting just the high hat on the drum kit?

Essentially, is it possible to have one midi note (on the drums) trigger two sounds in Abbey Road drums?

Otherwise I will have to hit two separate drums live, which is just too difficult given the other drums parts to be played.

    Thanks,

    Ben

Maybe there is an easier way to do it, but you can load 2 instances of AR 60 and unload all but the tambourine from one of them and then assign it to the same midi note as you have the high hat on in the other ...

I'm writing a neat and short multiscript for this, wait a few minutes. :)

    EDIT: Here it is!

This multiscript will help you play an additional note only in case you press a key that you've defined in the interface. You can have up to five such combinations defined. Here's what the knobs do:

Input: select the input MIDI channel over which you're playing your drumkit
Input Key 1-5: select the key you want to be your trigger key (in your case, a hi-hat key)
+ Key 1-5: select the key you want to play along with your trigger key (in your case, a tambourine key)
Vel 1-5: set to Original to play the added key at the same velocity as your trigger key, otherwise you can set it to a fixed velocity
Output: select the output MIDI channel, in case you need this conversion. If not, leave it the same as Input

    THE SCRIPT: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=1ze5Ts2h

    Hope this helped!

Thanks for these. I will try both. Dios the script work on a mac? And where do I install it if it does?

You don't need to install it anywhere, you just paste it in the multiscript editor. That's the small icon next to the instrument page selectors in the multi view (1-16, 17-32, 33,48,49-64).

    Alesis DM6 with KonTakT

    Hello
I would like to buy Alesis DM6 but only to trigger sounds from Kontakt... is it possible ?
Do you know the Midi Note of each pad of the DM6 ?

Thanks to help me because this question is not documented anywhere...

I think you can program which note gets sent on each pad. Checking the DM6 manual might help.

    Thanks...

I don't know because according to Thomann there is no way to reassign MIDI Note to DM6 Pads ! I feel it strange, because it's possible to do it with minor controller like Akaï MP18...
So this function will condition my purchase...
    have a great day

Hmmm, in that case, there are two options you can use:

    * a multiscript which will change the notes incoming from DM6 to notes that you want to trigger in Kontakt.

    * instead of DM6 module, get Alesis Trigger I/O which is a completely programmable and very comprehensive drum trigger module. You'll need to purchase drum pads separately, though.

so... you mean I can buy DM6+Alesis Trigger i|o and every pad could be assign to any Midi Note ?

Yep, but since you can reassign notes with a multiscript in Kontakt...

You don't need to know it - it's a factory multiscript that you just load and then set it up. Open the multiscript editor (press the "scroll" icon to the left of AUX button below the NI logo on Kontakt's interface), then click on Preset->Factory->Transform->Change Keys.

That's it. Set up your keys how you want them to be. The thing is that this will change keys for all incoming MIDI events, not just those on a particular MIDI channel.
