How did they mute the sound and why?

In the Faded Reels expansion pack, there's this sample project called Vengeance. Main Melody 3 gets muted in the bridge and outro. It still has notes. I was wondering why this technique was applied this way and how the people who made the project muted the sound. The notes are the same as Main Melody 2, but even though the time slider is moving through the notes I can't hear them being played. I looked at all the settings for the sound and they're identical. Master, group, sound are all identical.

 

I can't check since I don't own that expansion, but I suspect the presence of MIDI controller events altering the channel's volume.

 

Check the Output. It's common to see the Output Level of a Sound/Group modulated to zero in order to mute it in expansion projects.
You don't need an external MIDI device for this, you can record automation with a Maschine controller or just draw it in with a mouse.

Click on the midi socket icon above the modulation icon next to the automation lane , maybe they lowered the velocity

 

I clicked it and both are identical.

 

You must add a modulator.
