So how did everybody get started using Maschine, and what makes you continue to use it today?

I fell backwards off a wall and banged my head really hard so it looked like I had a giant egg on it. Somehow this made me think Maschine was a good idea. I still use it because I'm still retarded................................

I've had standalone things in the past, and never really invested time in it, just had fun, that's it.
Then, years after, went back to a daw, had fun, start to think I'm maybe mature enough to invest into something I can get my "hands on" : As I'm 'first'/old Dj : I wanted pads to trigger stuffs...I had pads on my SPS808, and the old Akai too.

Can't remember why I chose Maschine honnestly. Maybe because it seemed more clear, compared to MPC's, and Octatrack's seemed over complicated...

Now, without entering details because that makes me fatigue...Also I don't want to put oil onto the already existant fire in here.
I feel actually pretty lost, so I wait...
Events I don't swallow, plus the fact I have some pads near dead, takes away the joy, and I find joy in Live more and more...

I really, really don't know what I'll do soon.

once upon a time, a steady blitz of NI ad campaigns convinced me that Kore 2 was the future of sound. just a few months later, NI discontinued Kore 2, but gave me a deal i couldn't refuse on Maschine, which was then made the new future of sound. hahahaha

i had always been a NI fan, and was waiting for long time for a NI sequencer, then when maschine came i didn't jump in too early because of the recent Kore experience which was a big failure. (fortunately i managed to sold it)

but when VST support came i jumped in, i immediately love it, it was so fun. but i didn't like to use it inside cubase, the workflow was fucked up, so i started using it stand aleone, dealing with limitation and waiting for future updates that it become a daw, then after 8 years i saw that it will never become more than a groovebox, and my current workflow was so fucked up with the software limitation, so i sold it and start using ableton.

Back when I started with Maschine I had grown bored of just using the mouse+daw and wanted a something that felt like an MPC but more modern, tethered to a computer so I could pick my hardware specs and also gave me a chance to perform my stuff. Back then options were much more limited and borderline nonexistent.

I still use it because out of 10 things I value it does about 5 really, really well, 5 out of 10 is not bad for someone as picky as me.
Because it speeds up the sketching process and makes it more fun with the bigger controllers which is awesome, too bad it then slows me down in the arrangement, MIDI editing detail, and some other areas which are where I spend most of my time.
Because I invested in the NI-ecosystem, KKS, Komplete, etc... Leaving would mean abandon quite a monetary investment not to mention the time I have put in to learn the tools inside out but if nothing changes after the release of 2.8 with sounds.com integration out of the way I probably will.

Had a Push 1 using Ableton, and although I love(d) it I wanted something a bit more streamlined and something I thought would work well with Ableton (boy did I mislead myself here.) Then thetMK3 came out and it added a level of speed, portability with the built in interface, and integration with Komplete which I have been using since 2015.

I had the Push 2 for a while which just felt way too busy compared the the OG, but the MK3 was easy breezy.

I enjoy Maschine for the most part, but in hindsight I wish I stuck with Push 2 and Audio Modder since Ableton is my actual DAW and comfortable working environment.

I'd tell you but then I"d have to snuff you out. Let's just say I wasn't happy with the buggy MPC software and I here I am ... oh yeah and I also picked up a Jam.

I was an NI user since Spektral Delay and Kontakt 1.0. I was tired of crappy control surfaces and using a mouse/keyboard so I thought a system where i didn’t have to look at the computer (much) would be more for me. I got Maschine MkI well before 2.0 and i liked the workflow but not the screens or the lack of multiple colors on the buttons/pads.

I didn’t use it much then sold it later and got a Studio which I still think is tremendous.

I had so many excuses why i wasn’t making music anymore pre-Maschine and it just comes down to not liking the workflow of things like Nuendo and Cubase - it was not inspiring me.

In the couple years since heavily using the Studio i’ve done hundreds of tracks or track sketches and gotten back that love of music making from 10–20 years ago that i had lost. The immediacy of the interface and the comfort level I have now is fantastic. The only thing screwing me is lack of computer power to really go nuts and not have to watch my group/sound counts so much.

I am a longtime Cubase user and started to invest in NI software since Komplete 5. I bought a Maschine MK2 when it came out, thinking that it would help me organise all my NI-stuff, but it didn't and since I have never been a beat maker, I couldn't get my head around it, so I ended up selling it. Then came the Komplete Kontrol S-series, and I was very happy. NKS did what I had wanted Maschine to do, and, being a keyboard player, the interface of the KKs61 suited me so much more than the beatbox-style Maschine.
When the KKs61 mk2 came out, I sold my mk1 and bought the new board, mainly for those beautiful screens. It came with a lot of Maschine buttons that stayed unlit when I used in Cubase, though, so I started to think about Maschine again. At a local shop I bought a Maschine Jam in a sale, and that changed everything. Using the Jam together with the KK61 made me understand the Maschine software so much better! I now was able to use the software to actually make songs, and the whole process of songwriting in Maschine was just so much fun! I ended up buying an MK3 also, and now I consider Maschine my main DAW. I recognize it has restrictions, but the fun factor in creating with it surpasses that, for me. I do hope and assume NI will continue to better the software (I really liked the updates since the MK3 came out). Sometimes I build a song from short patterns, but when I am in tryout, melodic noodling mode, I often use long patterns (60+ measures). Both do the trick. I had a little trouble recording my vocals at first, but the audiomule has made that easier too.
About 35 years ago, when I was 14, 15 years old, I used a double cassette player to record layers of (non editable) tracks of acoustic piano and vocals on tape. Great, great fun. Maschine has brought that feeling back, alongside an almost infinite increase in creative possibilities. Good times to be alive - no complaints here.

I got into maschine because I wanted a controller with tight software integration. Having already been familiar with other Ni products I jumped on it.
Despite the need for improvements in some key areas, I still find Maschine an invaluable tool and do some of my best song writing with it. I will be picking up komplete ultimate CE soon, so looking forward to adding 90,000 sounds to my set up ;o

Exactly you were referring to yourself .. and btw who exactly gets offended by using the word "retarded"? You think those with learning disabilities think...

    a) Oh they must be referring to me.
    b) How dare they refer to me a retarded person.

    TIP - No they don't.

Touch of the SJWs there but hey let's all be outraged.
