How do I correctly automate parameters with Ableton

Hello

I want to automate parameters in Absynth from Ableton. I understand that I have to set macrocontrols first and can only automate those and that I cannot control effect parameters directly. Example: if I wnat to automate the grain duration in te aetherizer, I need to first assign it to a macro control and then select the macrocontrol to automate. However, I don't see any changes in the parameters What am I doing wring?

I have gone through the manual and that has not been very enlightening. I assigned the transposition randomization in the aetherizer to CC21. I can now see in Ableton Gran Tra Ran. So I select that and draw the automation but there is no change. What am I doing wrong?

 

May i ask, if you use automation in Ableton with other instruments?
Are you using track automation? I don't use Ableton Live, but i assume you need to set the automation to READ, to have the recorded/ drawn automation to work.
