let's suppose i find a sweet resonance spot in a sample with a particular filter.

i know i can modulate the resonance frequency via the keyposition but it's not to friendly to use...

let's say that the resonance is on the note A2 at 440Hz.
i set up e.g. a low pass filter with cutoff at a 440Hz and crank up the resonance

now i want to modulate the resonance so that when i press the note A3 the resonance will be at 880Hz. I have to move the cutoff exacly by one octave but the "keyboard modulation" value is expressed in %. how many "%" i should insert in order to have this octave-following??

    thanks a lot!

You need to use the key position modulator set to 100%, but it needs to be shaped by modulation shaper to reduce its amount throughout the keyboard range. Different filters have different mod shaper curves depending on their cutoff range. It took me a while to figure them all out... However I'm not at my main computer right now so no Kontakt here, hence I can't post you these mod shaper curves.

12% keyboard modulation gets you something fairly close to tracking. But for some reason, NI did not seem to make the filters so that they actually track exactly - anyone know why they used some odd transfer function here? Why not make the filter freq so its exactly exponential and would track exactly for some setting of the modulation index???

    thanks
yes, it's pretty awkward that there is not a consistent setting for key modulation. instead of % it could be set up as note range...
moreover, i did not noticed that each filter had its own setting, that explain why i was so confused!

Key position modulator is only expected to work "correctly" when it's modulating the Tune knob. Then you get a perfect octave keytracking when it's set to 100% (with the Tracking button in the Source module disabled, and when having only one sample loaded, stretched across the keyboard!).

In any case, here are the modulation shaper curves for K4 and K5. They need to go to C:\Users\<username>\Documents\Native Instruments\Kontakt 4 (or 5)\Presets\Tables\

It works here with a Ladder LP2 filter (+ one of the Table presets you provided) on an nki with samples for each key. Cool!

Just wondering what happens when I distribute the instrument: does the user have to manually copy the Table preset too, or is the Table setting saved within Kontakt?

No, once you load the preset it becomes a part of the NKI.
