I've done a search to explain how to remove duplicate patches but all the post say to delete folders and such but I have downloaded several banks from various sources throughout the internet but if I delete those folders I will also delete the non-duplicate patches. Can someone explain how to remove only the duplicate patches while keeping the rest? Thanks in advance.

Where exactly are the duplicates located? Are they in a different or the same folder as the non-duplicate patches?

There is usually the option to delete specific files/patches directly in the FM8 Browser (via right-mouse-click).
Otherwise it should also be possible to just delete single (duplicate) files/patches inside a folder (via a file explorer).

If the hints above don't solve the problem, maybe you can also post a link to the thread(s) you're referring to.

Or you can also contact NI support about this: http://www.native-instruments.com/en/company/contact-ni/

When you import a sysex-file it usually shows you a dialog with the path to where the converted FM8-patch is stored. If I remember correctly under Windows it's located by default in 'Documents\Native Instruments\FM8\Sounds\ConvertedSysEx'.

So as mentioned in my last post, either directly delete (or move) the duplicate FM8-patches from the ConvertedSysEx-folder. Or delete the duplicate patches via the FM8-Browser.

You only know which ones are duplicates after trying them :) Most presets in these sysex are modified factory presets that kept the name. What really stinks though, is that FM8 overwrites presets in one sysex file if they have the same name and can't read past special signs. So many presets in sysex files cannot be imported. FM7 would load a sysex file as a bank and would import all presets that way.
