Just bought Kk s49 Mk2 and so far i like the workflow alot.

But i can't figure out how to turn off light guide, this is really annoying.

I bought the keyboard because i had a concussion an wanted to get my eyes of the big screen as much as possible,
and this light is really messing up my head.

I know you could turn it off in mk1, so why would you remove a feature like that?

Is there a workaround or do i really have to beg the store to take it back?

Anyone know the status of this request? Will NI finally allow us to switch off the light guide?

Obviously this small request has not been considered even for the newest update 2.1.0 (as of 02/21/19). It would have been an easy one. Select MIDI: in the category KEYS is the option Assign Type (Note/Off). If you set the type to Off, the disco lighting is finally off. But this is no solution for the actual problem. Why isn't there simply the option OFF as Color? Please consider a version 2.1.1 to turn the MK2 series into a serious keyboard. Thx.

Why do people buy a keyboard with light guide if they don't like the lights?

I like the lights... Sometimes. Sometimes they are useful, sometimes they are annoying. It's not that I don't want them at all, but options to turn them on/off (and change the colour) would be great, and were kind of expected, as the MK1 had these options. Options are good.

Sometimes I ask myself whether a person is really so open to simplicity and happy when he thinks, with a supposedly simple question, that makes the world worry:(.
Perhaps there are many reasons why you buy a keyboard that also offers a light guide. Maybe it's the sophisticated keyboard, maybe it's the simplicity with which you can scroll from keyboard to sounds and plug-ins etc.. Or maybe to go on stage with a software like Apple Mainstage and ignite fireworks without many disco lights.
Excuse me. That was probably a more complex answer to such a simple question. ;)

If all keyboards were equal but this included light guide, then yes, why buy it? The S61 MK2 offers certain features and integration with the software I use. It checked off many options I was looking for. The lights are a small inconvenience for the other features I use. Also, I would have expected an easy option to turn off the lights. Oh well. I've learned to live with it and my bandmates said they like it.

Yes, but only in midi mode, not in KK/plugin mode

I'm a professional software engineer. Currently, I'm creating a program which listens to my playing, and changes the lights according to what I'm playing.

The program already has the ability to turn off the lights. I could make it a standalone program, available for everyone as an executable file. You would be able to double click it & immediately turn off the lights. If anybody would be interested in this kind of program, I'd gladly make it. It won't take me a lot of time.

Make sure to let me know, then I'll get right to it. If I hear nothing, it would be pointless to create it haha.

Good to hear, I'm planning to create it within the next couple of days. I should warn you, I've only tested this on Windows so far, I'm not sure if it will work on macOS.

Keep an eye on this thread as well, I'll continue to post there for updates:

I did a little digging, and it seems like it's literally already possible to release a mac version, but only with a mac device to compile the project.
In other words, I will never be able to do this unless I can get a hold of a physical mac device.

It also means that anyone with a mac device should be able to compile this without any code modifications, but with a little knowledge of how to get the project ready to build.

I created an issue requesting for help: https://github.com/EdwinVanRooij/komplete-darkness/issues/10.
