For some odd reason, both in KORE 2 and KONTAKT 4.1, i can't appear to be able to adjust the sound latency amount and because the initial value is too low by default (448 if i remember correctly), the audio is 50% hiss and pops....

As of right now, the only way to use KORE or KONTAKT without any hiss or pops is to load them as plugins into ableton live, because the plugins do luckily use the latency amount specified by the options in Ableton live.

I've tried many times in both KORE and KONTAKT to adjust the latency samples size by dragging, left clicking, double clicking, typing in numbers, etc etc and none of those are able to change the value. Does anyone know of any way around this? I searched the forums and I did see a post about installing new 3rd party sound drivers if I recall correctly, but that sounded like quite a scary way around this problem to me...

If you don't have a card with good ASIO drivers, you should definitely use ASIO4All:
    www.asio4all.com

If on the other hand yoir card has reasonable ASIO drivers, click on the button that says ASIO config to open the control panel for your interface. See the thumbs...

    why asio?

correct, ASIO wasn't in my list of drivers, similar to the person whom was writing in the other similar thread. out of curiosity, why would we need to install ASIO? I've never noticed any sound issues anywhere with this computer except in this one wierd case, and so it seems odd why new 3rd party drivers would be required to solve this.

I guess my question is what makes ASIO special, compared to standard sound drivers? I think it'd be a handy thing to know for future potential issues...

oh, and thanks for the info. :)

Why? Because that's the easiest way with a Windows box to get low latency and reliable performance. ASIO's the only cross-platform low latency solution out there.

With a Mac, CoreAudio will usually work fine. On a Windows machine, WaveRT or WDM support's spotty with most music apps, to put it mildly. And, DirectSound or MME's essentially useless for low latency work; the drivers aren't designed for it.
