I just wanted to sound-off about some initial concerns.

Personally, Im worried that NI is trying to turn Maschine into a performance tool/disco ball. Maschine began as a sort of an evolution of the MPC. I can only imagine how much development time was lost to lighting effects and colorization.

While its hip to play live drums at lightning speed on a padset its the dedication to refining the Maschine is what makes it something very special. This seems to have clearly taken a back seat to marketing.

If this trend continues, NI will soon transform Maschine into Just Another Midi Controller. I hope theyve had their fun and now intend go back to work on the software. Also, I dont think bundling Massive makes up the lost dev cycles they spent on glamorization.

    What do you think?

I think you have some good points, but you shouldn't be that concerned. The LED incorporation people keep flipping out about is meant to further solidify the link between Traktor and Maschine making it a more inclusive system for people to tinker with. As for 1.8, I am really happy with what they are planning, and it seems like a lot of the features people have been asking for ("panic button", time stretching, pitch shifting etc.) are making an appearance.

Have faith. It is going to be super badass...

Most music software lets you colour code stuff. This just extends it and makes it hands on, which was the point of Maschine in the first place.

I usually wait until i have it in my hands before drawing any conclusions. For the hardware i'll have to go demo it but will wait for the inevitable reviews and feedback from new owners.

Yeah also otr mentions the improved compatibility with Traktor and a short while back people were saying how Maschine should have the colored pads when they showed up in F1. So here it is! :D

*And with the increased sensitivity of the new pads, you also have a new level of precision at your fingertips.

*Navigating and scrubbing are much easier, and changing note pitch and detailed tweaking becomes extra-precise thanks to the encoder’s superb physical response.

if these are true, they offer remix deck integration, and a crossgrade price...
    I'm sold.

so are there going to be any further updates to the current hardware or is that it for that model now? shame if so.... im sure the new one will (is) ace but it'd be nice if they smoothed out a few thing's before they left the current one.

its stupid, its the same thing, and the new software wont support multicore,,,, wow! how ridiculous, thanks native instruments, no one told, nor did it say on the website that it will only handle 1 processor out of 8 on my i7.... big time consumer glam for the new maschine..... new lights! the one i have has lights, new push button, i have plenty of knobs, new software, what a waste, no multi core, horrible.. someone said why does being limited on the maschine make people stay away? well, lets see here... IF YOU ARE ONLY ABLE TO USE 2 VSTS AND ABOUT 3 INSTRUMENTS BEFORE YOUR CPU USAGE PEAKS THEN WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT.....If you are gonna make a beat, why should you have to resample what you already made, or export it to wav and bring it back in.....They concentrated on these fruitful lights so much, they could have been working on a way so i can get the best out of the machine... i really wish i never got this piece of gear, but i cant take it back, and im not using ableton or reason, im not making beats with a mouse and keyboard... yes you can use a midi controller, but i wanna control stuff through something like the mpc, so that might be my best bet to go with

    Nothing to worry about. Yet.

Having read the new specs, i dont see a big deal and i just bought maschine a few weeks ago, knowing something was going to happen. But the price drop was worth the risk. The big issue will be when 2.0 drops and whether mk1 will continue to be supported. As for the colours, i like them on my f1s but also feel the mk1 maschines will take on a vintage look. Which is good. You dont need the latest gear to make good music.

    Traktor and maschine

Btw agree that the ball ache involved in synching traktor and maschine should be resolved.

I wish theyd spent more time on the software than the hardware tbh

Im sure its not in practise but damn, it really looks like a toy now

If i buy something else this year it will probably be the Akai, but not for ny other reason that to have something else in the arsenal...NI have had way too much cash off me recently... with mikro, maschine, expansion packs, kompete 8 ultimate...and i missed every single sale...doh

I knew something was getting ready to happen because of the sale of the mk1.. I have been a NI customer over 6yrs now and they have the same pattern of sales then releases.

There must be a new massive or new komplete next. They would never give massive away unless they were working on another synth or another version of komplete.

I like the look of the new maschine but at the end of the day I already made my maschine gold from 12inch skins, they saw others selling skins so they adapted the idea. I also saw where other users changed the color of the pads before this new controller. You have to ask yourself would color pads and a white maschine help your creativity? Or it just looks good and its the latest fix for being a gear slut.

Now Im not going to lie if I can get the new controller for cheap I just might bite!

    I agree 100%

I'm loving the new Maschine so much I had to register and post about it. I have a Mikro and was this close to pulling the trigger on a phat Maschine yesterday. Then the leaked news appeared and I was jazzed. Now my dilemma is...do I buy a MK1 for cheap or do I spring for a MK2? Either way I'm excited. I love the new look and the changes, and I'm looking forward to 1.8. The fact that we get Massive too (which I don't have) is absolutely insane.

Im happy with the situation. I bought mk1 a month ago for a great price.
I like the look of the new one but dont feel im losing out.
So maybe a good balance by NI. They have to update their product line FFS.
If you want a deal get the old one, if you have the dough, buy the new one. Simple. Old mk1 or new mikro is a more difficult question.....

I've read a few folk with concerns over MkI and 2.0 but other than the coloured pads I don't see anything in MkII or its integration with the software to make me concerned that in, say, 12 months time MkI users are going to be dumped on and support dropped or that key features will be missing for MkI users. Support will continue because, in essence, both MkI and MkII are the same other than aesthetics (though I do concede that the coloured pads will provide heaps of potential noticeable work flow/user improvements from user to user).

I do think however, that NI will be working on a "proper" Maschine upgrade. One that will really push things into a new direction be it via the incorporation of an audio interface or some redesign of the work flow or whatever. They'd be crazy not to but, I'd imagine that this is a 24 month+ plan and possibly one that will impact both MkI and MkII users. Chances are they are keep their eyes on how Akai's new range performs.
