think the new controller looks good love the inverted screen and the data wheel.

and the pad colours looks dope as does the colour scheme in the software which seems to loosely correspond to the new inverted screen.

but really need to see video of the hardware as opposed to the graphics and wanna see how the customer metal plates fit in.

also i hope the whole fx section has had a revamp most notably for me are the vintage modes (mpc60 especially)and the filters

There is a video of the Maschine on the product page.
There has been no mention of a 'wholly revamped fx section' at any point from NI, they've published the feature list and that ain't on it.

Glad to hear 1.8 is on its way.As far as the controller,it seems a bit rushed, not too many of our feature requests for a bigger more robust controller happened.still only 8 groups? As far as the inverted screen, it doesn't seem like it's pitched that much better, it looks alot like the older controller in that respect.

As others have said, i'm more happy about 1.8 then the new controller, with that being said, I'd probably pick one up at some point and sell the older one if it integrates with the rmx deck

Totally disagree that this update was a substantial investment in time or effort - seems like quite an assumption. I have written interrupt driven firmware for micro controllers for LED lights and its pretty basic. Multi colored LEDs are not much more complicated at all - you are just controlling multiple LEDs to mix the colors. I strongly suspect the code for lighting control was just lifted from Traktor and modified slightly anyway - which makes it even more of NOT a big deal to get done.

As far as hardware updates - they changed three knobs to one - again no big deal to recode and a minimal hardware change. The original machine printed circuit board had empty pads that may have already been there to facilitate adding new components. If you look at the difference between the Mark I and II, very little of substance has really changed at all. NI stands to make a bunch of money on a pretty marginal upgrade to the controller.

I suspect the real V2.0 controller is in development, with substantial improvements to the hardware and hopefully more major software updates as well. I do want more functional updates but I am content to wait because I bought Maschine for what it could do the day I bought it.

I for one am more happy than ever that I got a MK1 when I did. I even got a free Decksaver with mine, so essentially I paid three-fiddy for the Maschine. I think the 1 looks much more professional and very likely would have passed on the MK2 had it been the one available at the time when I bought mine.

I feel grateful that I will still qualify for the software update having fallen for their discount offer that as always turns out to be we're selling off the old stock price rather than just a spring sale.

As I'm also an owner of Traktor (since Pro Scratch) and a purchaser of an S2 I will not feel over the moon when they announce that the Maschine Mk2 can act as an F1 and control the sample decks. I will however feel amused by the fact I posted on various forums saying what a great idea it would be for NI to make a Maschine Mk2 with coloured pads that would also double as a Traktor sample deck controller.

I feel very happy that after selling my X1 for peanuts I did not rush out and buy an F1.

I feel optimistic that even without the colour coded pads NI may be nice to existing Traktor/Maschine owners and allow us to control our Traktor sample decks with our old Machine Mk1s.

    My overall feeling... :|

there are 2 things i want out of maschine II

    1. a more physically robust USB socket
    2. tight seamless high speed integration with Traktor (ie..not viewed as "just another midi controller")

If Maschine II cannot execute all of the functionality of the F1 with Traktor/S4 then to me it was a waste of time developing it...

well, I am not fussed about the shiny new MK2> I want to be able to produce music with this tool and use to its full potential. Once I can do it, I don't mind NI spending time on cosmetics.

The 1.8 update, which is free is great. However, spending all this time and money on developing MK2 when some of the basics for the software has not been dealt with...

I'd say get your priorities right....and from customer / user point of view.

It's a money driven world so why even bother...

Anyway, hope the next update will finally include multicore support.

    I like it.

As soon as NI announce the Cross grade/Upgrade price, whatever they are going to call it. I will be ordering.

The Steel Blue looks pretty cool to me...

i bought maschine mk1 about 3 month ago and i couldn't care less about the new hardware. the LED colouring is nice, but absolutely not a reason to run for an "upgrade", and neither is the scroll knob change.

the free massive plugin is of course nice, but i'm short before buying the komplete 8 crossgrade anyway... so not a real kicker for me.

finally, a software update is always welcome, so i'm happy about 1.8 beeing released soon. unfortunately, my real issues with maschine are far from beeing addressed (multicore support, sidechaining and lack of DAW functions), so i'm a bit concerned about where NI is putting their development resources.

    waiting for maschine 2.0 :)

I don't see why they would turn Maschine into a live performance tool. Why not just do that with Traktor the live performance tool they already have.

I am a new owner of the Mk1 too and I've been thinking about the release of the Mk2 all day.

Having thought it through, I think NI did this upgrade just right....its not so much of a change that Maschine mk1 owners will feel that their hardware is worthless. But its enough of an update to feel ok about paying full price for a new version, after the $399 special for mk1 just finished.

It reminds me of when the Access Virus Ti2 came out, which most of you will know is hardware/software solution like Maschine. The Ti2 has some minor usability improvements and a faster processor over the Ti mk1. But Access continued (and continue) to support the Ti mk1 and both models share the same software, years after the Ti2 was released. I expect this will be the case with the Machine Mk1 and mk2 hardware, as it seems to be a model that works for other major manufactures of turnkey software/hardware devices. And note, Access never offered a upgrade or cross-grade price for ti owners to get the Ti2, and to me that makes sense.

So..I guess I've got a lot of learning ahead so I'm sticking with the Mk1 for now probably, but it really is a toss up between the two!
