Can someone please solve this mystery once and for all.

What I want to do is this: play a melody on a MIDI keyboard to trigger the osc synth in Vokator (over a vocal track, for example).

I would guess this is done via a side chain.

Now, the only way to get a side chain in Logic in this scenario is to load Vokator as an audio instrument. And this means you have to side chain to your audio file to trigger it. Doing this makes the vocoder work - but you can't play along with your MIDI keyboard! What I need is to load Vokator as an FX plug-in on a vocal then sidechain this to an audio instrument track that contains MIDI data, but this is impossible since vokator FX doesn't have a side chain.

Is it really possible to play live and watch the keys light up with Vokator? If so, can it be done in Logic?

I've looked everywhere for a thread on this but can't find it.

    Same here

    I use Garage Band 3.

So I may chose between Software instrument or Real one...

    1) Software instrument : able to use my midi keyboard but unable to record my live mike, must use the file player
    2) Real instrument : able to record my live mike but unable to use my midi keyboard (I guess this is logical..)

So, the question is : how to set the live mike within a software instrument track... ? (I guess this is not logical...)

If it is not possible, how to chain a real instrument track to a software (midi) one .. ?

    Thanks for any tips...

    Hi there,
ok, just sussed this. Load Vokator into an audio instrument track. You'll then notice that when you play your midi controller, the status window - in Vokator - shows a small midi symbol. Next, in the general options settings at the top of the Vokator window, select under Side Chain the audio track to provide the input. That should be it! There's a recent Sound On Sound article that has a very similar thing albeit with EVOC20...
