    Hi I am a newbe :)

I really get annoyed that some instruments like the Viola wont play below C2. Is there any way i can extend the range below C2?

Thanks for any help in advance!

I think certain instruments are sampled to only play the range of the actual instrument. Each played note is sampled from a real instrument so it would be weird to detune instruments really low just to have more key range. You need to play a viola for a viola part. You wouldn't play a violin for a bass line. If the viola doesn't have the range you need then find an instrument that does and maybe play the viola over it in a higher register.

    I could be wrong though.

Oh and actually I think the order of instrument range is violin (high) viola (mid) cello (low).

For the most part, instrument ranges are set to be 'realistic'. That said, every instrument that I've wanted to change has had the facility to do so. I'm not at my music cop at the moment but look for the 'range setting' (or something similar. You should be able to work it out from there. Stretching sample will reduce quality but it WILL extend your range.

But Klutch says it as it is. You'd be better using the instrument with the appropriate range.

You may even want to set your keyboard controller to have 2 zones set up one with the viola in the upper range and a cello for the lower range.

Hey Guys! Thank for the fast answers! would believe that I can get help so fast!

You are right normaly I would just switch to another instrument. But I am trying to do a remake of I'll Hurt you - Busta Rhymes and the thing is that the solo viola in staccato mode sounds just like it and it will play half the melody but the other is outside of the keyrange. As Schrage Musik sad I looked almost 1 1/2 hours for some keyrange settings the only thing I found is to change the keys on the keyboard but it wont generate lower notes :S Thanks anyways!

As to the original song you mentioned...

    1. It's possible that it was originally recorded with a cello playing up into the Viola range.

    2. It's possible that the original may have been made with a synthesiser keyboard viola sound or a sample-based music keyboard with no regard to the realistic ranges of acoustic instruments.

    3. It's possible that it was played with a 6-string viola or a 7-string violin, both of which are capable of playing notes down into viola/cello range, but in a smaller scale-length instrument.

    4. It could have been played with an entirely different instrument, such as a bowed guitar or bass guitar. Many instruments can be made to sound like a bowed string instrument.

If you only need a half-step or a whole-step lower, you can map it and it won't sound too bad. But if you map an existing sound too far up or down from its original pitch, it can sound odd, with artifacts. It might be better to just play the part with the higher registers of a cello instrument sound.

It's funny, all the replies here are about anything BUT being helpful. Who CARES if its not the original range? What an odd thing to even MENTION... If he needs it he needs it,. ALL THE MULTI's in Symphobia2 Have Extremely Short Ranges. ,I play Violin AND Cello and I assure you they do NOT Represenrt evena FRACTIOBN of the Instruments range,. More often than not one only needs that additionl next whole note or 3 to make what they intended but are stopped buy the Limits of the Innstrument and then stopped by the limits of the imaginatoin of people answering here! also, answering the question when one is away from their computer (and therefore not really answering the question), isn't exactly helpful.

    ANYBODY HAVE AN ACTUAL ANSWER:

How To Extend the Range of a Sampled Instrument?

Map it. I said that in my 2012 response. Has this really been bothering you for four years? o_O
