    surely this means automation? :D

Can anyone lucky enough to be using 2.0 already confirm that mutes are recorded as midi messages or not?

It sounds like your midi notes are stuck on. That can be a common problem with midi in general because of the connection.Basically the note on command is sent, but the note off get lost in the shuffle somewhere. If you google "midi notes stuck", you'll get tons of results from lots of people using gear. How old are your midi cables? Did you run the controller editor update when you setup the Maschine? I did that before I got the software. It seemed like it flashed the Maschine hardware when I did that. I've also had that problem when multiple midi devices were in conflict. It may bee a good idea to check/tweak some of the midi settings on the synths that you have.

This isn't automation. It's more like setting the Maschine in a "quick mute" type mode. That's been a feature of Maschine for a long time. When you hold the mute key and press the left most button above the displays, then that mode is pinned. It makes it easier to drop out sounds or groups without holding the mute key. That pinning feature works for just about any key that makes the displays change: i.e. pad mode, pattern, scene, etc.

Seems a bit bizarre then to describe a technique that is limited to live performance use in a manual for some hardware intended to sit in a studio.

Hmm, yeah, that could be the problem. But why would that make the MIDI out stop? The MIDI cables are almost brand new, basically bought them a couple of months ago. Also, controller editor was updated upon installation. I've hooked up the UM-550 now via USB, set Maschine to send MIDI out through that, but same thing happens.

Edit; hooked up my Akai MPD32 to the Analog Four now, and it works just beautifully, can play on that for a long time, and velocity is just right, nothing gets stuck, whereas with Maschine, there's all kinds of odd things going on when playing from the hardware. Velocity a bit off, sometimes a pad that is on won't make a sound etc. So definitely something odd with the MIDI going out of the Maschine, just don't know what exactly it is.

Could someone please post a video of editing notes via the controller? Eg. selecting a few drum hits, moving them around, changing note pitch/velocity, etc. Cheers!

You'll need the serial for it anyway, so wouldn't be of much use. ;)

Just bought the studio at lunch :) Gonna pick it up after work - thing is very big. Bigger than I thought actually. But in a good way - to have everything just accessible like that should make Maschine everything I wanted it to be.

Two weeks from now you will be smiling for getting it for $800.00, I know I will be too! I'm still waiting for the email shipping confirmation, that should come in today or tomorrow.

Yea man I know. I just feel like a big ass kid right now waiting on Christmas and I already know whats under the tree. If there was a way for those of us who pre-ordered to get the software I would be good with the wait. Really I can't help but to be good with the wait for that price though.

Yes, I wish there was a way to download the software in a demo mode that way it is ready to go when the M-Studio is delivered, then you just activate it. Or am I missing something here, and that is possible? I've already updated everything else, so that is ready to go.

NI sent this to me this morning.

You may already download the software, but please note that it will switch to Demo
mode without a valid serial number - and you also won´t have the new library
    available: www.native-instruments.com/setup-maschine2

    Downloading it now.
