traktor does auto beatgridding but is not always right, so manual corrections are sometimes necessary

hey pixle, that tip you gave us about most music being bang on the 00 is in fact bang on!

Just wanted to say thanks as was struggling to get my stuff syncd propper but know its great!

One thing i have noticed is that the older stuff in my collection is more likley to be off the 00, i guess this is because they used to make the music on hard ware gear. in fact you can tell when an artist switched over to computers!

    Anyway, great tip pixel

    write bpm tag

    hi,

i'm a traktor beginner. I have an organised music collection in itunes, and try to analyse and write the bpm tags with traktor 3.
I see a window called 'BPM', my BPM is determined, i chose 'rounded', it says '100%', but i see no lock button. And the BPM doesn't show up in itunes.
Does someone have an idea what the problem is?

    Thanks!

Traktor (previously known as Traktor DJ Studio) is a DJ software package developed by Native Instruments. The most recent version, Traktor Pro, offers seamless looping, effects, automatic beat-gridding of tracks, advanced beat detection and Sync Lock for automatic synchronization of tracks, a 4-channel mixer, emulating the Xone:92 4-band EQ and filters by Allen & Heath and three other equalizer models, real-time track management with incremental search, artwork browsing, iPod and iTunes compatibility, automatic gain control, integrated recorder supporting internal and external audio input, support for multiple MIDI controllers and advanced MIDI assignments, as well as the syncing of external gear through MIDI clock functionality.

Once youve analyzed, beatgridded etc you better create some shorter playlists just to break things up when browsing - things get way confusing when theres 1000s of tunes staring you in the face!

I posted this elsewhere but its kinda to do with preparing music too...

An annoying thing I come across when buying tracks from websites is that they show all the art work on the site itself, but when you download the tracks, some dont have the artwork embedded.

Im clearly missing something here, but would like to get into the habit of embedding the artwork into files that are missing or that Ive recorded from vinyl so I can see it on screen when Im playing.

Can anybody enlighten me on a way to do it (iTunes didnt work)?

I recently read your comments regarding track collection and transferring them to Traktor. For the record, I have Traktor scratch pro and I, as you utilize itunes to organize all my music.

The problem I am runnning into is every time I bring new tracks via downloads, I organize them in itunes, then rate, then I write a comment. E.G.

Track Artist Time Rating BPM Comment

Everytime I download a track organize, rate and comment, I then open Traktor and right click add to playlist and boom, its done. But and this is a big BUT, when I go to the traktor pplaylist and open it, the ratings and comments are not there. it says "purchased on beatport" in the comment field and no ratings are highlighted at all.

I would immensely appreciate any comments or tips you may have.

My Way. (Hip Hop, Reggae, RnB, Dance, Funk)
    1. Import cd into iTunes (CDDB)
    2. Use Mp3Tag to edit tags (Set Genre, Set case, add album art, I created macros that replace foreign characters + a few more customisations).
    3. Import into Traktor Collection from Tractors iTunes Smart playlist "added recently" (set at 1 day)

    HOTKEYS!
Get to know em or even make your own.
    Must haves:
    beatjump<> 1, 8, 16
    snap to grid on/off
    Jump<> cuepoints
    create cuepoint (lock)
    delete cuepoint
I usually drop the beatgrid marker on the 1st beat of the 1st verse (ie as a visual cue as to where the last song needs to be faded out by.

Then jump to the halfway point of the song to check BPMs are still aligned (tidy up if needed)

Jump near the end of the song for a final check of BPMs.

Jump back to last cue (beatgrid) and beatjump backwards in measures leaving cuepoints along the way.

Make one of those a"load" cue for manual mixing and even set an "in" for lazy mixing.

Jump near the end of the song (usually at a bridge or a couple of measures after the last verse) to the point thats best to be mixed OUT by. beatjump backwards in measures leaving cuepoints along the way.

Make some of those "locked" cues for manual mixing and even set an "out" for lazy automixing.

A WORD ON AUTOMIX FADE OUT IN v3.4.XX
It seems you have to set fade out cue points 1beat earlier than normal if you want the measures to sync in autoplay. This way only works for autoplay. If you use "use fade in/out markers" with cues set like this in normal (manual) mode, the measures will go 1beat out of sync.

Dont forget to write tags when youre done.

It can take less than a minute to set BPMs, Cuepoints and write tags in this fashion.

    Happy Sorting!

Dont use the comment field at all.
I delete all info in that field and just use the other fields.
    &/or
Did you say "add to playlist"?
    Try adding to collection.
All songs in Traktors iTunes folder need to be added to collection before use

Just thought i'd share how i do mine -

I put my tracks into mixed in key, so it writes the key of the track into the file and so it shows up in traktor under the key tab in the browser.

then in my browser i have my playlists/folders sorted into Year/month and into genres

    E.g

    2011
    -jan 2011
    -Feb 2011
    etc

    &

    House 2011
    Deep House 2011
    Tech House 2011
    techno 2011

I don't actually like genres, i think good music is good music, BUT, having said that, i think it helps in traktor if i want to take my set a bit tougher or a bit deeper then i know where to look straight away.
the same goes for doing my playlists by year and month, this way if i think 'oh i had a banging track last month or a few months ago, i generally know where to go quickly, instead of just having a mass of tracks to sort through.

I guess i'm a bit of a control freak but i just like to have things neatly organised so i am fully prepared.

Hi yehudili. A big welcome to the forum. The forum is a great place to learn new things and share ideas.

Have a read through the forum rules and FAQ (links on the left) so you don't get any old timers throwing eggs at you for making newcomer mistakes. Most of the guys here are real friendly and helpful but can also get a little cranky at times. So don't sweat it.

    Enjoy your time in here.

    Regards
