    Thanks for the reply

Ive read all your posts I can find, and also the supposed work around solution. The only midi option that works here is to record the single red notes and have the patterns play. That works fine as far as using the patterns "as is" in a track, BUT as far as getting the midi from those patterns into a track for editing etc ...

When I disable the output CC and midi notes ... and send the midi out to another midi ttack I get nothing recorded in that track.
When I enable the outputs .... I get all the extra notes.

When I do what that "work around post" says and try and trigger the patterns with the "red keys" from my midi controller ... I get exactly the same results as stated above under the two different conditions stated.

I am having the same problem using Logic Pro. I am able to use the Ensemble of Indian Instruments in a limited and somewhat satisfactory way, but there is no analog to this and Studio drummer in the /West African instruments. I feel like I was deceived in buyint this product; importing African and Indian patterns would be a big part of my music. Had I known of such limited capability, I'd have gone with Swarshala for Indian instruments.

If I didn't have to dick around so much, I'd have been able to complete another album by now. I used to assume Native Instruments was worth the extra cash, but not so much any more. I challenge you to give us improved features and usability for no upgrade charges. Otherwise I'll dump it and badmouth it as soon as I can scrape up some cash for more fully featured software.

That's the thing: you will not be able to do that. Use the built-in pattern editor in West Africa to edit the patterns if you want, then use the red keys.

Thanks for the quick reply, and please pardon my irritation expressed in my post. I managed to record output onto an audio track, both what I input with a keyboard and the patterns themselves, using West African and Indian plugins. It's OK for what it is, but in my ideal world, I could also output to MIDI. At least the Indian instruments let me drag sections into my midi tracks.

Yes, because India is a newer instrument and offers MIDI drag&drop to host. West Africa is an older instrument from K4 times, K4 didn't have that feature, so that's why.

I managed to record West African patterns to audio, properly synched to the host project. I’m playing it as one plays an instrument. This just required me to think differently, so I suppose this experience has been an opportunity for growth. Cheers!

Sorry to drag up an old thread. I've just been trying to record the midi in ableton and its just not happening. Shouldn't NI be updating this instrument as they are still selling it as part of a pack? Its such a great library. Its such a pity you can't drag and drop the midi. It can't be that hard to sort out.

    Hello,

we've just released an update for "Discovery Series: West Africa" (version 1.4, via Native Access).
This update adds MIDI drag functionality to all instruments, so no need to record the MIDI output in the host any longer.

    best,
    nicki
