How to set up your Komplete Kontrol Transport in Sonar

NI says that you can make the transport buttons work in Sonar by setting it up with the MCU (Mackie Control Universal) Protocol. This doesn't work.

Go to preferences - Control Surfaces. Click the yellow pushpin icon on the top right to bring up the Controller/Surface Settings.
Set up VS-100 as Controller Surface and 2-Komplete Kontrol DAW in the input and output Ports

It should look like the attached JPG

Hit OK and then another OK and you should be good to go.

If you don't see VS-100 listed as an option, go to

After you download the file and install this, the VS-100 will be on the list.

I'm able to use my KK S61 transport controls AND my Presonus FaderPort simultaneously in Sonar Platinum, and everything works with ZERO problems.

Thanks so much! You are a lifesaver! My copy of Sonar Platinum did NOT have the VS-100 driver, but your download fixed that.

I wonder why they are treating each other like this? (It always comes down to politics, communication (or lack thereof) and sometimes, long-held grudges. (And sometimes money!) With such a long list of compliant DAWS (even Garage Band, for goodness sake!) I cannot imagine why Cakewalk, Samplitude, Digital Performer and others are not invited in.

Sure! I don't blame NI. It's Cakewalk's responsibility. They provide complete support for Softube Console. How many people have that? But not Komplete Kontrol, which is very popular.

I would like to see better integration between Sonar and Komplete Kontrol in general. When you want to switch instances, you have to change it within KK and also change it within Sonar. I think with Logic and other DAWS this is one step.

Makes you wonder if Cakewalk wasn't thinking of doing something similar to KK themselves.

In any case, also my thanks for this article TigerTheFrog. Luckely I had seen your post before I was ready to try it in Sonar Platinum (had issues getting KK software to work on my computer), but I would have had a hard time trying to figure it out myself.

 

I have the same problem with the M32 and Sonar Professional. The transport buttons don't work, even using the VS-100. Can anyone help me with this?

This thread was for the first generation Komplete Kontrol when they had good programmers and it was possible to get it working in any DAW.

Since MK2 and all hardware beyond, it is only possible to get transport working in the above DAWs, anything else is basically not possible.

I keep saying this over and over again,but it should be against the law to sell products with such misinformation to consumers. There should be a huge public out cry for this sort of thing. Sadly if so, Native Instruments marketing would be in jail

 

Yup. Product has been out ~18 months. We have had ours for a year. Colleague is legally blind and so the MK2 was a downgrade for us.

Here's the kicker though: NI does have the best accessibility features around, yet they dropped the ball completely over something as simple as transport, which is universally applicable. ⚽

 

I had to put an ancient, dead cheap Korg NanoKontrol on top of my NI keyboard to get some ergonomics going.. It is no less than pathetic.

 

Utterly ridiculous that it has to come to that when cheaper keyboards will do it just fine. Kind of a standard for the past twenty years.

 

Exactly, lol I can't tell you how many gadgets I've tried to get the perfect workflow to just do the most basic form of midi recording with a so called SMART midi controller. What a Joke ! I've settled with an ipad 2 for transport controls with Studio One! DAW of the year twice I believe recently! NI acts like Studio One isn't replacing a ton of Pro Tools setups as well, which was probably the most famous. It's disgusting at this point! Every day I come in the forum to at least check to see if they have updated it, but nothing.

Hammy has anyone from Presonus to your knowledge commented on their behalf,on what's taking these two companies all this time to release us a working option?
