While I had the mic out I decided to answer some other questions I had thrown at me in regards to getting more "Kontrol" out of the Komplete Kontrol keyboards with Live.

Live users will know that we have track select and transport control of tracks but we cannot access the "blue hand" auto mapping that we can get with other controllers. This video demonstrates how it is possible to setup custom control pages on the keyboard in MIDI mode that will auto-map controls to the selected tracks device. Up to 64 parameters can be controlled automatically for a selected track using the keyboard... and an instance of the Komplete Kontrol software doesn't even need to be loaded in a track for this to work.

For newer users that are a little lost with Komplete integration with Live as it is this video may help as it also explains how the integration works with track switching.

Free downloadable User Control Scripts and Control Editor templates used in the demonstration to save you setup time are linked in the video description.

Hi Jester, Does that work aswell with Komplete Kontrol Mk2 with the UserConfiguration File and the Macro Banks? I guess the Controller Editor is not anymore seperate with teh MK2, so i dont know if this still possible to setup like in your video?

I should think it is possible, I don't have an MK2 but it will work with ANY MIDI controller, you would just need to setup the MIDI CC values in KK instead and either the same as what I did or create a new custom script in the same way.

There is no harm in experimenting and having a go. That's basically how I learn everything.... Give it a go, fail a few times and then after much frustration, ask for assistance if needed.

I made a script for MK2 myself, also enables bank changing using buttons

See NKS user lib in my sig/hardware integration

That means i take the other one. But i do need to adapt the controller editor inside komplete kontrol as well with the values of the UserConfig File? Could you send me your Midi Template for Komplete Kontrol MK2? Best Regards Samuel

its not exportable - just use the same cc values if yours are different

This looks as good as anyplace to find an answer to my query.

I actually have just installed this automapping sciipt. Still getting used to it, but for the most part it’s working.

However, only the first six parameters are mapped. Now maybe I could wipe the preconfigured settings and start from scratch, but that’s a bad idea if you are just starting out and I can’t move a new page to the front of the line, I’d have to always go linearly until I get the right page.

To that end, I am hoping that creating MIDI templates will be that much more helpful. What I’d like to do is to create a template for an instrument, choose the parameters that I want, save it, and have it work for an instance of the plugin, as opposed to my preferred settings only working for a given patch. I’ve done this with some templates for Logic’s smart controls for some of its built-in instruments, so hoping that I can do something similar in Ableton.

    Thoughts? Thanks!

If it's installed correctly with the correct template loaded through control editor then you should have auto mapping for all 8 controls with 8 banks selectable from page 2 so in theory, 68 controls should be auto mapped. In saying that, I rarely use more than the first 8 because the lack of label feedback makes it difficult to know what is what.

You can create templates for whatever you like. This is imply a MIDI template that is used with the User Script feature to allow automatic mapping without the need for any MIDI learning, mostly to add track volume control to the MK1 keyboard than for controlling devices.

What you would need to do is create a template with custom CC numbers and channels and then map it to a device in live manually then save that as a default for that device. Then just load that template when you load the device. Bit of a hassle. Personally I use Push for everything in Live and Komplete Kontrol just for VSTs.

    Hey Jason:
Wel I’ve recently found out that the Controller Editor isn’t an option, due to no support for the MK2. It’s been replaced by the MIDI Assignment Editor, which I’ve used before in Logic like I mentioned, but not in Ableton. I could easily create patches with desired custom settings, and maybe even macro controls too (still working through that). But good point in that I may have to settle for mapping MIDI templates with custom CC numbers, as opposed to the default ones for the parameter controls (CC 14-21). I’ll need to play around a bit to find out what the heck is gonna be practical. Good that you have Push to work with; I have Maschine Jam with its Ableton integration, and will learn to work that with the overall integration.

I’ve already learned a great deal, including limitations that I do my best to work thorugh. Thanks again! I will try the idea this evening.

I have the M32 and was really surprised to find out the macro knobs just don't work at all on instruments that aren't wrapped in Komplete Kontrol. Any chance NI can put out an update that would allow this to happen? We should at least get macro knob access out of the box.
