how to start a gate event with host sequencer starts??

i am trying to build my very first module, a vey simple multistep envelope-patterned gate.

I have connected the multi-bp envelope to the audio in signal with a multiplier, so that the envelope modulate the audio signal.

everything is ok beside the triggering of the envelope.

For now i have connected a simple button to the multi-bp envelope gate, so that the envelope starts when I press this button.

BUT I want to start the envelope when i hit "start" (or rec) in my host sequence, sonar 8.5

how can i do this???
i tried to load a midi-in start/stop module and connect its gate out to the multi-bp envelope gate in, but it does not work... why??
how should i manage this??

another question: how can i "read" the BPM from the host sequencer in order to the the multi-bp envelope BPM exacly the same as the host sequencer one??
