How to use the Limiter in Bandstand

Hi there

I've just installed Bandstand for production/finalising of midi files for use in our high-tech duo. I gather that limiting is a better option (in principle) than normalising, so glad to see this option within Bandstand. However I don't really appreciate the differences between the Hard, Medium, Soft vs the "Push" and "Gentle Boost" options. My question is whether anyone has used these to any extent, and if so, could you recommend which one would achieve my twin goals of (i) allowing me to produce the individual midi songs to the same approximate volume (for the obvious reason that we need songs to be reasonably consistent for stage use) but also (ii) preserving as much of the natural (!) dynamics as possible.

Is this the holy grail? Am I asking for too much?

Very very grateful for any recommendations from more experienced users.
