    OK...

Every time I use VI's from Native Instruments...as Soft Synths...SONAR goes whacky & will not re-open a project after it's been saved & closed.

If I install a single NI Soft Synth...(normally 'Akoustik' or 'Electrik Piano')...I get a 'Looped Tracks' warning, that reads as follows:

When I hit OK...the project DOES open...but that MIDI Track you're seeing disappears, completely...all data is lost.

If I install an NI Soft Synth & OTHER SS's...(for example, onboard SS's like 'TTS-1' or 'Session Drummer')...I'll get the 'SONARPDR.exe NEEDS TO CLOSE ' window...sometimes w/ a ModName unrelated (?) to NI...such as this:

but normally w/ a ModName related to NI...like this:

Now...the big reason I went out & got Komplete5 in the 1st place was to get the h*** away from the use of romplers. Virtual Instruments sound so much better; & play fine on a modern system (when working correctly). But I really don't feel like going out & spending additional cash for a Muse RECEPTOR or Kore2 to solve this problem (not even being sure if Kore2 could)...& the doggone NI samples should stream as advertised anyway.

So...are there any NI/SONAR users out there experiencing this problem ? Sure would love to get this solved.

    Thanks,

Try using the VST versions... the DXi.dll is what seems to be causing the problem here.

Another thing- have you run your NI apps as standalones? If not, do so and reboot. Then, open Sonar and rescan your plugins.

    ran Vst...same thing.

    opened as standalones...opened SONAR...rescanned plug-ins...same thing.

(although...2 things here: didn't reboot after running as standalones...will try that. But...whatever it is...it's associated w/ the two pianos (Akoustik & Electrik)...because, after they were opened; & I attempted to load sounds...my PC went into the bad blue screen of death (telling me Windows shut down to avoid being damaged).

also: ran Akoustik Piano in Kontakt3...same thing.

    something really amis, here.

    ew...

on a side note...I'm in the process of performing a complete uninstall/reinstall anyway...to only load the apps I need in my work right now...for disc space reasons...(& in hopes it will also solve the problem).

Question: I run two drives on my audio machine...the local for the OS & apps, etc.; & a secondary for audio data. Where should everything go, for the sake of maximum efficiency ?

Last time (I think...) the apps defaulted to 'My Documents' on the primary & I believe I was prompted on the Libraries...for which I chose the seconday. But I'm not certain; & I want to get it per NI's recommendations on the reinstall.

    thanks,

I'd do what you're doing- apps on the primary and libraries on the secondary. As far as the My Documents thing goes, they should have defaulted to C:\Program Files, though.

If you had disk space issues, that could have definitely been the problem. Windows needs at least 15% free space on any drive, and lkes to see at least 25% free.

    ew...

you wont believe this...but I had a Temp folder that wasn't being purged by CCleaner...& was holding over 125GB's of temporary files. On a 160GB Seagate...I had 7MB's of free space...! [Found the problem w/ a utility known as TreeSize.]

I'm betting that was it...I'm going back now & reinstalling Komplete5...& will get back.

    thanks,

    125 GB? That's really weird...

    ew...

[will ask this here & at Cakewalk]:

I opened & ran several NI VI's as Vst Instruments in Cubase LE. The project ran flawlessly; & re-opened without a hitch. So...(I suppose I should download the trial version of SONAR8 & try NI w/ that before I jump ship)...but I'm probably going to jump ship & go over to Cubase 5. (I lost a client because of this & I've had it w/ SONAR bugginess).

But before I do...SONAR has also been corrupting Akoustik Piano's Library. If I load a piano in that VI, it seems to run OK (aside from all the other problems). But as soon as I load another piano, the Library gets corrupted; & it will not load another piano thereafter. (this does not happen in Cubase LE, incidentally).

So...is there a way to uninstall/reinstall ONLY Akoustik Piano...so that when I move to the new DAW, I start from fresh ?

    Thanks,

    mm

    ew...

    UPDATE:

Heard back from Cakewalk today. They had taken my my Dr. Watson logs, minidumps & project files; & now say that the problem definitely originates from NI.

Sure hope Gabriel (at NI) is able to help me on this...I asked her yesterday is she needs the same files; & haven't heard back. Gettin' worried man...need this resolved.

If i was you , i wouldn`t be so quick to jump ship from Sonar, version 8 is great, and has much to offer. Every DAW has bugs.

not jumpin actually, alkie...after careful consideration...I decided to stay w/ SONAR & get this problem resolved.

    thanks for the input,

Sonar 8 is IMO the first stable version of Sonar EVER, and I've used them all. I like it for audio recording, but for heavy vst use Ableton Live is much more stable and I like the automation in Live much more as well.
