I've I have komplete 10 ultimate and have loaded fm8 . Several tutorials make reference to something called fm8 FX in order to use fm8 as an effect for audio and other plug ins. I can find no sign of fm8 FX on my computer .. ..where do i find it ?

You should find it among your other FX plug-ins in your DAW. Perhaps you in some DAWs don't need it, if you can't route audio to a instrument track. But you should find the FX version among the fx plug-ins anyway,

Basically there are two plugin versions: FM8 (= Instrument version) and FM8 FX (= Audio Effect version).
So, in general, have a look at how to insert Audio Effect Plugins in your DAW (instead of loading instrument plugins).

If this doesn't solve the problem, can you please post more details about your setup:
    • Windows or macOS?
    • And which DAW are you using to load the FM8 plugin?

thanks for your replies....... i am using reaper .. but I can't find the fm8fx plugin .. reaper doesn't recognize it despite there being an fm8 fx dll file in the relevant file pathway in reaper's vst preferences directory

Is your Reaper 64 bit and FM8 32 bit? Some 64 bit DAWs will not load 32 bit VSTs/VSTis natively. The 32 bit software will need a wrapper like jBridge to work in a 64 bit DAW and even then its a hit and miss game.

I see i wrote "can't" in my first post when i meant "can". Don't know if you can route audio to a instrument track in Reaper.

Be sure you look the right place for the FX version? The FX version should be among the FX plug-ins, So be sure you look among those, and not among the instrument plug-ins.

Beside that, if you are sure the paths are correct and you look the right place, then you can try to rescan your plug-ins in Reaper.
Is it on a Reaper blacklist for some reason? Then perhaps try and reset the blacklist. Have a look in the blacklist to see if it's there.
I don't know anything about Reaper, so can't tell you how.

If that don't help, then perhaps you can try to uninstall and re-installl FM8.

In Reaper, try doing a [Clear cache/re-scan] via Preferences > Plug-ins > VST.

In the FX Browser, both FM8 and FM8 FX show up here in the [VST] folder. But it's also possible to select [All Plugins] and enter 'FM8' into the filter field at the bottom.

Just as a general side note:

Reaper 64-bit can also load 32-bit plugins with its own plugin bridge natively. Bridged 32-bit plugins (in Reaper 64-bit) are indicated in the FX Browser by (x86) in the plugin name.

OK, then most likely both versions are just named 'FM8' in this case:
    • VSTi: FM8 = Instrument version
    • VST: FM8 = Audio FX version

By the way: which 32-bit Reaper Version (number) are you currently using?
