I enjoy mixing in fl more

Recently purchased maschine and I'm having a ball playing around with it. I've been getting into mixing more and I've noticed that despite maschine being very easy and straightforward to use, it's mixing (EQ specifically) does not show the wave or any useful references that I would find helpful (as a novice.)

However programs like fl and ableton have EQ's that give some sort of visual representation of what's going on. Like so: http://flavastudio.com/images/FL7_EQ2_450x209.jpg

So from this I have two questions:

    1) If I want to mix my tracks (via export sounds as .wav's in fl) is it improper of me to do mixing in maschine first? I don't know too much of the mechanics of audio mixing, but I feel that there may be some issues if different stuff from different programs are applied to the same sound. I'm asking because I feel the need to mix sounds on the spot so that they sound nice and have the right feel so that I can progress in the beat.

    2) Is it possible to get an EQ vst that is visually useful? So that I may be able to enjoy using maschine-only more.

    thanks,

    Ven

Pro Q is excellent, or try voxengo Span which is free...better still only use your ears ;)

While I agree that the EQ in Maschine is far from adequate in a mixing context... I'm still baffled by how many people rate an EQ by the visual feedback it provides.

I think with constantly staring at DAWs and waveforms, automation lines, midi notes we start to do everything visually...i only use a frequency spectrum at the final mix stage but damned it took me a while to trust my ears

Pro Qs great because its unlimited bands, and because its so clean, zero colour

People rate many plugs by the GUI.
Yes, the look doesn't make it sound better but it helps you when being creative.

Looking at various ugly ass plugins that just have sliders is not what I want to do when recording/mixing for 8hrs.

ReaQ and RealFIR from the makers of Reaper (Cockos Inc.) are both free and provide visual feedback. RealFIR is one of the few EQs, similar to Fabfilter ProQ, that has a spectrum analyzer under it. RealFIR can do more tricks than Fabfilter ProQ, but is not quite as pretty to look at.

Personally, in Maschine I use RS-MET Easy Q quite often along with Seven Phases Spetrum Analyzer, which can go full screen. Voxengo Span can almost go full screen and has nicer metering.

I thinking learning is easier if you have à good visual representation. My music sounds 10 timers better Since i bought fabfilter mixing series. Probably ni maschine fx can do the same, but now i know what to do because it shows what is happening.

Ableton 9 copied the gui from fabfilter, because they see it works perfectly

Another vote for the Pro-Q. The visual representation is not a substitute for your ears but is certainly a useful addition. I have almost all of its controls mapped to my controller for mouseless control.

I agree with the EQ. It's just more musician friendly having nicer more helpful feedback and not just dials & digits all the time.

I'd also like it if the NI built in compressors had at least a red light indicator or something to show when compression was taking place (maybe different colors for different intensitys?).

Yes, I use my ears but I'd also like to know precisely whats happening and not guess how much limiting or compression is taking place.

Kinda forces us to go 3rd party for some plugs...

Maschine is perfect, too many eq fanboys here, in the future we don't even use eq

I personally think it's great to have some sort of visual feedback on an eq especially if you're working in an untreated room. I use Pro-q or Izotope 5.

    I really like Pro-Q.

Maschine definitely has some scope for showing us more info regarding waves, levels etc, and in particular I'd like the LCDs to show this information where possible too.

The idea that weshould all just use our ears, assumes that we have acoustically treated environments, with completely neutral, high quality speakers, and trained ears...
I don't think many of us are that lucky. Visual representation of what's happening to the sound is a bloody god send, and anyone making out like theirs ears are foolproof is a fool....:|

First real defense to "use your ears" I've seen here.
