    hey guys,

there are a few kinks id like to try to iron out..

the first being presets in komplete elements. i love how the komplete sounds are loaded into my maschine, but i'd like to change the tags on them to suit my organizational needs a little bit better. unfortunately, whenever i do, the tags never save! does anyone know a way around this? i'm on a mac by the way. i'm pretty OCD when it comes to my sample library and although i love komplete elements and the factory sounds, i always like "my library" to be separated and sorted. i cant seem to figure out a way to do this with maschine. i'd love to separate everything maschine comes with under 'factory' and then have ONLY my sounds categorized in the generic categories (bass/lead/synth etc). any tips?

the second.. i'd like to convert the kontakt instruments from komplete elements to maschine and i understand that'd id lose quite a bit of the sounds parameters, but i'm just after having the raw .wav file mapped across the keyboard. i find it easier to work within the limits of maschines sampler parameters. is there a tool or clever way to do convert the kontakt programs to maschine programs?

third... i'm pretty new to making beats. i bought a mpc1000 a few years back and only got a few weeks with it before it had to be sold to pay rent after losing my job. but back then i was using windows and there was this program called 'chainer' i believe that sampled my soft synth and produced a set of .wavs i could map across the pads. does anyone know of such a tool or a way to do this on for a mac?

fourth.. when working with breakbeats, i typically slice them up, spread them across the pads and have at it.. but ive found maschine slices to the same pad w/ zones vs slicing each individual sound to a pad. i've searched the forums and found a few old posts that discussed this topic but i'd like to know if there is anything new on it. is there any clever/automatic way to slice a loop and have it assigned as individual sounds across the pads or do i have to do it manually w/ the 'truncate' feature?

fifth... in some DAWs you can temporarily 'disable' plugins to stop them from using your CPU and enable them when needed. i can't figure out if maschine has a way to do this? sometimes i re-use the same effect combos for resampling and right now i've been saving presets.. but i'd love to just have my favorite effect stacks setup on pads to be routed to as needed and disable (but still loaded) when not needed to conserve cpu. am i missing a button here or is that feature just not available?

sixth.. after listening to some of the factory songs and picking apart their structures, i've found that more than one have some crazy glide and slide action going on, however this is pretty difficult for me to replicate without being able to change the length of the note (yay 1.8 for adding this feature!). until then, does anyone have any tips they can share on programming controlled glides?

i'm sorry i asked so many questions, i'm not sure if thats against forum policy, but i've been lurking around for a bit and these questions are a compilation of things that have come up..

    happy maschining!

quite a number of questions, maybe too many?

1/ don't understand why you would do this?

2/ not sure if the raw waves are there....aren't they part of a sample map file?

3/ why not use Maschine to sample your Soft Synths?

4/ use 'Apply To', there is more info in the Manual

5/ if the plugin itself has a switch, that is all you can use.

For the tags, don't touch or edit the tags on the presets. The stock presets will come back when you do a re-scan. They are meant to be fixed factory content and give a way to be restored to original. Maschine allows you to save your own user presets and they show up under the user bank. You can give it your own tags there when you do a save as command. Be aware, that if you save user versions with the same name they will appear in the browser alongside the originals if you do not filter the browser to only show "User".

For #5, if I understand you can bypass a plug-in by selecting module and shift+buttons 5-8 above the LCD for the module you want to bypass. In the software you can do this by clicking the orange module number.

thanks for the reply sowari! and yeah, i realized it was probably too many questions. these are questions i've had, but didnt join the forum until the list of questions got out of control :/

    in regards to your response:

    1) its not 'necessary' but i have the expansion packs as well as elements and my library has them separated per expansion. this is nice for some people. for example, i'd like to remove the 'kontakt' and 'reaktor' attribute from the spark presets but they are locked somehow and my changes dont get saved. :(

    2) im pretty new to kontakt/etc... i dont really understand how the files are put together. i can imagine they're locked in somehow for copy-protection purposes.

    3) using maschine to sample is what i'm doing now, but on the PC i had a program that would sample and produce wavs for each key automagically. definitely made things easier

    4) apply to maps it to separate keys but on the same pad, right? i'm trying to get each slice mapped to its own pad with its own parameters without doing it manually. ill mess around with the apply mode a little bit more. trust me, i read the manual (i study it at work and make notes, no joke! lmao) but i cant really make a clear distinction to apply and apply to. i'm under the impression 'apply to' is to apply the mapped zones to another pad, not to separate the mapped zones to individual pads. am i missing something?

    5) yeah i figured :(

b-righteous, thanks for the reply man!

the library isnt that big of a deal. i mean, i would love to have all the content organized exactly how i want it, but the setup as is isn't necessarily a pain for me.

in regards to the plugins, thanks so much! for some reason in my head i thought that you could only disable/enable the internal fx, not vst plugins. it didn't even cross my mind to try! >_<

Your welcome. After pressing "apply to" press another group button to apply first 16 slices to separate sounds on that group.

holy truncate batman! this is excellent news. i had been saving each slice manually previously and it was taking loads of time to do it that way. this is awesome, i cant wait to try it out. makes perfect sense now that i think about it, "apply to: group" lol. cant believe this slipped past me.

if anyone is reading this, a random tip i came across... i purchased 'retro machines' to use with my maschine and the performance was absolute trash, but i was certain it wasn't my memory or cpu. the culprit ended up being the audiounit version of the plugin. when i used the standard 'stereo' vst plugin of kontakt (not the 16 out etc) the performance was great and it now runs very very smooth. so keep this in mind, im new to mac and audiounits but it seems that the audiounits native support for multiple outs may cause a pretty big performance hit.

I still use it, W-7, but never (tried) recording, more as a platform for VSTs that I sequence with Maschine or standalone sequencers.
Like sovari said, i re-sample into maschine too, much better and in sync, ready to go loop, don't even have to stop maschine

Wouldn't that be nice, automated disablement of plug-ins and instruments when they're not playing.

The answer is basically no, you can't.

40 mins into programming an hour long live set and Machine basically won't cope with anything I throw at it without spluttering, so I'm stuck and it's too late to start going back and re-sampling everything... this feature would be a dream right now.

Hold shift and hit the module slot above the LCDs to disable them and then there will be no CPU hit at all.

you would have to re-save them as User Presets.

It's not clear from your post, so forgive if you already know this. You can change note length in the UI; the only new thing in 1.8 is being able to adjust it from the controller.

Are you talking about portamento (which is usually a property of the individual sound) or pitch bend (which is done with Maschine's Auto Write or painted in a part's controller lane)?

wow, i feel kinda stupid but i never bothered to check the software. its a piece of cake to do that in the software. ive never operated the software side of maschine. i typically just turn on my laptop, load up maschine, then close the laptop and put the maschine on top of it haha. as far as the slides, im talking about portamento.. but now being able to adjust the note lengths in the software makes it a lot easier for me to program slides. pretty stoked with the info i'm getting from this forum! i hope i get proficient enough at using the maschine to be able to help people too.

    Oh hey!

I'm just gonna jump in here if y'all don't mind but there is one thing thats been bugging me for the longest time. while I'm in sample mode and i go to slice, I'm able to play a slice of my sample (and it will play for as long as the slice allows which is normal) and as soon as a press another slice, it interrupts the current playing slice and plays the new slice.

what i wanna know is, outside of sample/slice when I'm in the regular control, how can i set my samples to play the same way? i know that there is adar, one shot and that other one (i think ans) but is there a way to set the pad type to match the one in sample/slice?

    hope I'm clear on this

Choke Groups are common in 'Drum Machine' type software were probably first used to simulate hihats. if you have three hihats samples - a closed, and open and a half closed - you might no want the sounds to overlap if you are simulating a real-world example. if you assign them to the same choke group you can get a short closed hat to cut off the sound of a much longer open hat.

on page 63 4.2.1 Page 1: Voice Settings and Engine in the Reference Manual you can find out where to set this. there is more on page 64.

basically any samples assigned to the same 'Choke Grp' will cut each other off. Samples are usually set to 'Oneshot' Mode. see 4.2.2 Page 2: Pitch/Gate and Amplitude Envelope on page 64.

not only did you answer my question but you managed to explain well enough for me to understand the functionality of the setting, thank you. sooo much...

as a token of my appreciation i would like to show you what I've been working on! I've got free downloads on most of my beats so feel free to check em out.
