    Hi There,

I recently sold my Traktor Kontrol S4 Mk2. The new owner has got back to me asking if I can 'de register' it. This confused me as I don't recall ever registering it. Having had a look through my NI account I could not see anything that looked like it'd ever been registered either.

NI support (no. 1378967) has since got back to me telling me my request for help will be delayed.

Does anybody know what I need to do here? I just want to let the guy use the kontroller that he bought from me.

Extra context - I only ever used it with my traktor software that came bundled with A6 Scratch, so he isn't due a copy of traktor software from me. He just wants to register it (whatever that means) and use it with his own traktor software.

    Any help very much appreciated!

If the S4 is not registered in your NI account, there is nothing you need to do.

If he already has Traktor, he does not need to register the S4. Just install the driver, plug it in, configure Traktor and you're done. I assume that's what you did when you got it as well.

Thanks Erik Minekus. Yes, that's exactly what i did. But he sent me this screen grab (link below), he should be able to to register it imo, even though i never have. What's the issue exactly?

is there anything I can say to put his mind at rest?

I don't know why it would say that it's registered if i never registered it....

That screenshot is from Native Access, which doesn't support Traktor, so I'm not sure if you can even use it to register a Traktor hardware product. He should try to use https://www.native-instruments.com/en/support/hardware-registration/.

Alternatively, if he doesn't have Traktor yet, he can enter the provided Traktor serial, which is different from the S4 hardware serial, into Service Center to get started.

If none of that works, NI support will have to deactivate the serial from your account, you can't do that yourself.

This seems like a good avenue to check Erik, I have forwarded the chap the details. I will report back with the results. Many thanks, Ben

Ok, so it's taken a week. But NI have finally got back to me and have informed me that it's registered to a user called JAHMEL. I presume that this was the chap I bought it from 2 + years ago. I've sent this guy an email, so fingers crossed he's amenable to a licence transfer request.

I don't understand how I was able to use the hardware fine if it was registered to someone else? presumably the new chap I've sold it to will be able to will be able to use the kontroller fine, even if it's registered to someone else too.

    What a mess...

Because you already had a copy of Traktor, there was no need to register the S4.
Correct, if he already has a copy of Traktor, there is no need to register the S4.
