If the 1.5 update is free why did I have to buy it?

    Hi,

Looking at the sticky for the 1.5 update and following the link to the details it says that the 1.5 update is free to all users.

    When did this happen?

My records tell me that I paid 25 Euros for this update and I still have the confirmation email.

    What's going on?

    Regards,

    Paul.

That's a good question; I paid for the update myself.

I'll see what I can find out.

    Well I'm furious!

I paid for the 1.5 update pretty much as it came out, complained about endless faults here in the forums, beyond just the boomy notes that everyone has found... I've had distortions as mentioned in other current threads and dropped notes when played quickly around velocity layer sample switches. And that's after waiting far longer for instruments to load under 1.5 than they ever did under EP1. I posted descriptions, screen-shots and mp3s. I've not used 1.5 for months now, it's just a nightmare. I've popped back here today and read about a hotfix, but only mentiopn of boomy keys is referred to, so i won't be holding my breath... but either way IF IT'S A FREE UPDATE NOW >>>I WANT MY MONEY BACK!<<<

    Hi everybody,

All UB updates are available free of charge since July 17th. This is a part of the "Summer Of Sound" special offer season. The UB updates will however remain free of charge even after Summer Of Sound expires.

    Regards, Thomas

I didn't have to pay for mine, but I can understand why those who did would be upset, especially since as you point out it will remain even after SOS expires.
I think those people who did pay are due a repayment.

    Hi Thomas,

    Thanks for clarifying the position.

I am not annoyed that the update is now free or the fact the I had to pay for it. What I will say is that I will be a little more wary of jumping straight in to buy chargable upgrades in the future (especially if I'm only going to have to wait four months to get them for free).

    Kind Regards,

    Paul.

Still very annoyed - I think a refund is in order!

I really have paid for something that I didn't need to, something that since shortly after no-one else has had to pay for, and for something I've barely used due to it being far less stable in many respects than EP1

UB? Universal Binary is it? I don't even know! I use EP as a stand-alone to just play the sounds, or as a plug-in within Cubase... on the PC. So this bit about paying for the UB update when hot off the press was irrelevant to me.
