    I have Komplete-5.

Now lets say I want to buy the box version of Komplete-6 upgrade version and install it. I understand that Kontakt, Absynth & Guitar Rig will get upgraded to their latest new versions and Massive, FM8, Battery & Reaktor remain in their current versions as they have no upgrades. This is clear.

But what happens to Akoustik Piano, Electric Piano, B4 & Pro-53 which are part of Komplete-5 ? Do they get wiped out due to the Komplete-6 upgrade or do they stay undisturbed ? I would guess that it should depend on how the Komplete-6 upgrade installation is programmed but dont know how it is.
So, could someone from NI clearly explain what happens ?

Then there are the individual synth upgrades. Now in this regard, would it be appropriate for a Komplete-5 owner like me to go for individual upgrades OR would I have to go for the Komplete-6 upgrade only ? If individual upgrades can be done, how would it affect Komplete upgrades if to be done in future ? Like say, when Komplete-7 comes along. How would the licensing be as right now I have registered for the full Komplete-5 in one go from the Service centre.

Would be grateful to get a complete clear picture from NI in order to make the right decision with regards to upgrades.

Your understanding is slightly incorrect. The Komplete 5 installer will install whatever you tell it to, and it installs the versions of products that were current at the time the DVDs were burned.

Two things could have happened since your Komplete 5 DVDs were burned:
    1) new MAJOR version is Komplete 6 (e.g. Guitar Rig 4 in Komplete 6 vs. Guitar Rig 3 in Komplete 5)
    2) Minor updates have been released (e.g. Battery v3.0 in Komplete 5 vs. Battery v3.0.6 in Komplete 6).

The MAJOR versions will install to different directories (e.g. program FilesKontakt 4 vs. Program FileKontakt 3) and have different executables (e.g. Kontakt4.exe vs. Kontakt3.exe). The minor versions will install to the same directory and have the same names.

Since they are installed in unique directories, they are not overwritten by Komplete 5.

Therefore, if you have Komplete 5 and 6 I would install the following:
-- Komplete 5: Akoustic Piano, B4 II, and Pro-53 only
-- Komplete 6: install everything (the Kontakt 4 library contains Elektrik Pianosa)

Once you get on the Komplete track you should never buy any individual updates to Komplete products because you will never get any type of "credit for them" with regards to future versions of Komplete.

The only reason you should ever update a single Komplete product (e.g. as a Komplete 5 owner only buying Kontakt 4 instead of Komplete 6) would be if you NEVER ever plan to buy another Komplete version.

The only exception to this rule would be for buying products that are current not part of Komplete, e.g. buying Maschine (since it is not part of Komplete 6). Even this comes with a risk that a future version of Komplete may include that product. For example, I purchased a copy of Massive one year, then the next year that was added to Komplete. I now have two licenses for Massive.

To summarize Komplete updates, it is acceptable to skip updates (e.g. a Komplete5 owner deciding to not buy Komplete 6 but waits and upgrades to Komplete 7) but never buy individual updates for a product that is part of Komplete.

Thanks Martin for the comprehensive reply.

The picture is quite clear to me now with regards to updates & upgrades.
Just to confirm, since I have already installed Komplete-5 completely into my system (all 11 applications), your explanation should imply that discontinued synths (Ak Piano, Elec Piano, B4 & Pro-53) remain as they are, completely new versions (Kontakt, Absynth & Guitar Rig) get installed into separate directories with the older versions being retained, and updates to the rest (like Battery, FM8, Massive & Reaktor) for their existing versions also take place automatically. And all this should be applicable even if I skip Komplete-6 and upgrade only to Komplete-7 from Komplete-5 directly whenever it comes.

    Thanks once again.

Yes. Also, after you install Komplete 6, sign on to your account and download and install any updates. Some of the Komplete 6 products have had updates since the DVDs were burned. Finally, if you plan to actually use some of the "superceeded" products in Komplete 5 (e.g. Kontakt 3 or Guitar Rig 3), you should also check to see if there are any final updates for these.

Bottom line, you should make sure that every product you might use has been updated to the most current version.

To view updates, you can either use the NI Service Center, or the download area:
