I have a mk1 Maschine that I've been using with my 2008 Macbook Pro for years without much issue. I just bought a new 2017 iMac and installed all of my NI software (including Maschine 2) via Native Access and the MIDI Patchbay software recommended. When I boot up the Maschine software, it doesn't seem to recognize the hardware, nor does MIDI Patchbay. I tried different cables and different ports. I plugged it back into my MBP, and it still recognizes it fine. Not sure what the issue is. I've read elsewhere on here that the USB 3.0 ports shouldn't affect it. Any other ideas?

Doesn’t look like MIDI Patchbay has been update since 2008.

I am on High Sierra, yeah.

Didn’t notice Midi Patchbay was so old. Anything. Newer recommended?

Check if the firmware is up to date.
Reinstall maschine, make sure the controller is not plugged in while installing the software!
    Reinstall Controller Editor.
Run OSX's Activity Monitor app and search for NI, make sure there are no NI stuff with a prohibited symbol as an icon.

high sierra is not a supported OS yet per the specifications of maschine on the NI website and unfortunately, apple will not let you get os 10.12 to downgrade unless you have "purchased" it before, so you have to buy it on ebay on a usb drive if you do not already have it. sierra will run on all 2017 macs. you can bring you computer to a "genius" bar and ask them to put sierra on it instead, although, most people have no issues with it and NI software and you will have to upgrade the os eventually.... i would make an external test drive first and only install the OS and maschine, and take it from there. ..

    SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
Mac OS X 10.11 or macOS 10.12 (latest update), Intel Core i5, 2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)

Windows 7, 8, or 10 (latest Service Pack, 32/64-bit), Intel Core i5 or equivalent CPU, 2 GB RAM (4 GB recommended)

    Additional Requirements
    • USB 2.0 Port, 9 GB free disk space for MASCHINE software and MASCHINE Library, 18 GB free disk space for KOMPLETE 11 SELECT
    • An Internet connection and a graphics card which supports OpenGL 2.1 or higher are required to download and activate MASCHINE software. Once installed and activated, all products can be used offline.
    ADDITIONAL INFO
    • Supported Interfaces: Stand-alone, VST, Audio Units, AAX 32 and AAX 64, ASIO, CoreAudio, WASAPI
    • Please note: Native 64-bit support for stand-alone and plug-in versions.
    • MASCHINE requires activation: Activate using the serial number on the flyer inside the box.
    • In case of graphics issues, please install the latest drivers for your GPU. This can be necessary even if Windows reports them as up to date.
    • MASCHINE software, MASCHINE Factory Library, and KOMPLETE 11 SELECT are provided as downloads after registration — an Internet connection and a graphics card which supports OpenGL 2.1 or higher are required to download and activate the software. Once installed and activated, all products can be used offline.

Buy it on eBay? Hell no! OSX is free for Mac owners, although Apple tries to restrict people from downgrading the installers are out there for download, it's not that hard to find them. If anyone needs help with this just let me know.

    Hi,

I tried to use my MkI Maschine Hardware with my 2012 Mac mini, which I recently updated to High Sierra. It wouldn't recognize the Maschine either.

I installed the MASCHINE Controller Driver 2.8.0 - Mac OS X 10.9 - 10.11, then went to System Preferences/Security & Privacy/General, and allowed the activation of the installed driver. And yes - Maschine was recognized!

Unfortunately, after the next reboot, it was gone again.

BUT: I installed the driver AGAIN, and after the subsequent reboot, it works now! :)

    that is what i said....*

i had the happen to me when i purchased a macbook pro years back and was told in the app;e store i could install an earlier system on it as the new one just came out and nothing ran on it yet. when i went to download it, it was not there and when i called apple, they said i could not have it because it was their policy that you can only get the OS if you had "purchased" the free OS before. so i could not use my macbook pro with audio for the first month i had it. by the time i found a downgrade OS in my area, some audio app updates came out that made it so you could run the software semi stable...

*the apple guy on the phone suggested i buy it on on ebay... and ebay did have it for like 6 to 10 dollars on a surplus usb drive... i was beyond furious and this started my ill feelings toward apple and their policy and the pro phones over pro computers... don't start me on the mac pro that is using a processor and other components that are now 25% of what they cost 5 years ago and apple is still selling it at the same price with the same early processor, which now is ridiculous.

so moral, don't buy a new mac computer right when a new OS comes out and wait until the second generation of a new model is released.

this is also why i am so annoyed about the native access app, as this is how the apple app store is.

The Architech try the solution that krogalon said and report back.
If it doesn't then I have a feeling that for some reason SIP (System Integrity Protection) is preventing the proper drivers from either running or being installed, in that case, i would suggest for you to google how to disable SIP, reinstall everything then enable SIP again.

ntula So.. the official Apple tech actually told you to do something illegal? Wow, I would be mad aswell. The moral is like you said if the user depends on specific software compatibility, downgrading the OS should be more streamlined and easy to avoid these issues. I bought a 2015 MBP early this year on purpose because I didn't want to deal with that USB-C/Dongle mess I saw all over the place on the newer models.

With that said the controller is now 8 years old, OSX gets updated every year I don't expect it being supported forever...

not the first time either that an apple tech said that, i was looking for, back when 10.9 came out, OS X server 10.6 to run with VMware fusion for when i need to access early files that require that os or earlier and an apple tech told me to get it on ebay as well.

it is that time again, to upgrade a computer... cannot decide on the new macbook pro or the zenbook pro..... the zenbook has more processing power, touch screen, and the ports, c/thuderbolt as well. but have read of heat issues (not sure if that is just gamer issues with the gpu).... the macbook has the better OS and overall stabiltiy, but lacks the ports.... i have not heard much on audio use on the zenbook pro...

I tried your initial suggestion with no response. Also tried Krogalon's method and also nothing. I'll try this SIP method later, when I get more time to mess around with it.

Any idea when NI might be pushing an update to Maschine for it to work with High Sierra?

Its been working since day one, I personally don't have a single piece of software that doesn't work in HS.
One last thing, check if by any chance you didn't install OSX with a case-sensitive filesystem. (it's not compatible with NI soft and many other software)
Post a screenshot of your Disk Manager app.

i have heard the same, everything works fine on HS, just no official suoport yet from many, but komplete 11 lists it now as supported....... and i do not think apple really change the core audio in it or the generic usb driver. you should be able to see the usb device no matter if the software can if the NI driver is installed. go to apple menu: about this mac/system report. go down to usb and expand. if you do not see maschine, then contact apple. the device should show up, driver or not because the hardware can see it from the circuit board if it is powered on, you need the driver for the software to see it.

    also..
perhaps it is the imac, have you tried other usb devices. also, most of those who have reported fine may be on earlier, pre HS computers. so it may be the imac with HS is not compatible. can you bring the controller to an apple store, you do not need to install the software, just use it in controller mode.. or bring a portable hard drive and boot off of that.

also, try maschine off a powered hub and try a different cable. i have some devices that will only work off certain cables if they are bus powered.

hmmm, weird, so I pulled all that up and it wasn't seeing it. Then I tried plugging directly into the iMac instead of my powered USB hub, which I tried earlier and didn't work, but now I guess it does? I suppose one of the previous reinstalls of the driver or software must've fixed it, but I was still trying to go through my USB hub. That's a bummer though, the hub is powered and supposed to be USB 3.0 compatible, but that must be where the failure was. Any recommendations on powered USB 3.0 hubs compatible with High Sierra? I was using this one, FWIW

Ok, so I found this on the apple forum and it seemed to work. I unplugged everything from my USB hub. Shut down the iMac, unplugged it for 15 seconds to reset the SMC. Plugged everything back in and restart the computer. Now my Maschine is recognized even through my USB hub. Figured I'd post it here and switch this thread to solved. Thanks for the help guys!

As a general rule use Apple's USB hubs, generic ones are to be avoided.
Many users report the Elektron Overhub working flawlessly with up to 7 devices connected, it's not cheap compared to common HUBs though.
Glad you got it fixed! :)

on the mac, some hubs that work i found are the built in ones in viewsonic monitors, i have 2 and they have 3 hubs, 1 usb3 and 2 usb2. these work flawless, never an issue. the only con is you cannot power off your monitor. sleep does not interfere with the usb at all. other hubs that work are the belkin usb2, and HooToo usb 3 four port silver long one with the fixed cable. all the usb3 hard drives do on occasion unmount after sleep on my macs, this is rare and never happens while in use - this issue was also present in usb 2 connections and does not matter if the hard drive is connected to a hub or to the computer direct. the built in hubs in the viewsomic monitors work flawless for the mk1 and mk3, as well as other audio and midi devices. i have more usb ports than i need with the viewsonic monitors and the built in apple ones that i do not need any other hubs. since the viewsonic monitors use an actual grounded plug and have an internal power supply, the power is sufficient for the usb bus.

oh, one note, the hub in the apple keyboard is not very good, it only works with camera and mice type devices. it appears apple intentionally disabled this.

My monitor hub works ok too (ROG PG348Q), all hubs i tried so far work fine, the only one that didn't work was a very old cheap 2.0 hub connected to my MBP USB3. This one has been working flawlessly although its from a generic brand.

So you were successful in getting the MK1 Maschine working on mac OS 10.13?
