This pawn shop is nearby a local music, arts, and recording school so they get a lot of music instruments, outboard processing equipment, and amplifier equipment in from students. When I asked a salesman if it's due to the bad economy, he said no, they've always done a brisk business there. He asserts that the students are often in search of money for drugs, which is very sad to think. However, there are deals to be had, for the patient shopper.

The Maschine in question is in brand-new condition, and even has the clear plastic display protectors still in place.

The store had no idea regarding accompanying software; they never got it with the device. Too bad, but considering the proximity of the store to the school, I figure that the software was probably the academic version anyhow, for which I am not eligible.

This unit was marked for about half the price of the academic version new in the box. If I understand the pawnshop business, the seller probably only got half of that. Wow. But without any software that can be licensed, I think any amount above zero is far too expensive for the unit.

So that was my excitement for this blazing hot Saturday.

I'll betcha some poor schmuck will purchase it within a day or two and will probably soon post another forum thread entitled "I lost my software for my Maschine; need a replacement disc!", so you guys and gals can start thinking now how you'll have some fun with that one...

    ;)

Well that's a very good point, and it did occur to me while I was in the pawn shop. I am fairly sure that the hardware controller is the same and Academic vs. Non-Academic is solely a function of the software and/or registration key.

I am not brutal on my devices anyhow, so I don't think I would need a second one. Plus, I still haven't bought my first one yet. $600 is kind of steep, and it would probably so happen that my washing machine or lawn mower would break down the same week I ordered Maschine. I hate credit card debt more than I lust after any controller, so I shall wait... :D

    1) What ashame - I would pawn a whole bunch of other stuff before my Maschine.

    2) Yeah - it would be sweet two have two maschine controllers.
