I like it too. Needs more tracks, real sample editing & such.
Let's hope they do something at least as cool as MPC Fly(talking about the App, not the crappy controller)

I see what you mean on the arranging part. At the moment I'm doing something low tech but it works. After I'm done creating a loop that I like I save it, then I do an export to soundcloud. I download it from there, edit it if needed and store it as a 16bit wav file required for iMaschine. Then I upload it into the app and place it in an empty pad.

If you have Maschine, well it defeats the purpose of doing all this, but for me, that I'm still whishing for Maschine but for now I can only afford iMashine so I have to play within my means.

My hope is that NI and all other big players in the computer music world see the iPad as a main rig for us hobbyist and semipros and we would like to have more features and capabilities. I do not mean Pro Tools, NI Ultimate & UAD plugs in an iPad, but maybe Apple Logic Express adapted to iPad, an iOS version of Kontakt (to compete with IK Multimedia's Sampletank) and an iOS version of Guitar Rig to use the rig as the effect processor, run the tracks thru them and print the processed on a new track...Ok, I'll stop musing...

You do know about the Garageband app right? You can open those projects in Logic.

Yes, I know about GB, I have it and it works fine.

But my thought process was that in the not-so-distant future as these tablets like the iPad will gain more speed and capability, the programmers would cater to expand the possibilities of music creation. Garageband on iOS is nice dont get me wrong, it is a good sketch pad, but imagine seeing the now defunct Logic Express reborn on iOS.

Being able to do audio editing, automation, midi editing, piano roll, tempo sync with other apps so the pieces you do on other apps fall on-time or having the time flex function to correct those minute tempo issues. As I'm sure you have seen the preview of Auria (http://auriaapp.com/), their specs are off the charts.

I see it that those of us that are not pros (earning their living with the art of music), will soon be able to have at least a version of the fully functioning GB or Logic Express on the iPad and record, mix, and render good quality stuff and the pros can enjoy their specialized tools without the threat of being watered down for the prosumer.

    Sequencing.

I think what i've found not only with this app, but with any iphone / ipad app, is that its best to use the device more like an instrument than full PC ( if you have the luxury ).

im just running mini out straight into protools and sequencing away from there. end up half the time just muting / unmuting my 4 track beat from the mixer @ imaschine and calling it a day.

    animoog is a dope instrument.

Is the 16GB Ipad enough memory for applications like Imaschine and Garage band or should I plan to get the 32GB? Thanks!

It's enough but if you record a lot of video or sync a lot of music on it, you might run out of space quick. You can of course periodically transfer any photos/videos into iPhoto and minimize the amount of media you sync to the iOS device to keep enough room available.

It would be cool to see something similar to the forthcoming MPC Fly from NI. A little iPad Maschine

    Hey all,
    just a thought.

With the camera connection kit and a midi keyboard, i can receive midi messages INTO my iPad.

how good would it be to be able to make beats with an iPad and a machine/micro?
