If you've not got it then you've not experienced how poor it is.

For an app to be as hyped as this and to be part of a 'trilogy' that includes two other great pieces of kit and software, this is SUCH a let-down.

I'm no wizard in flash and advanced actionscript, but given a couple of weeks I think I could build something like what iMaschine is! Theres nothing advanced, exclusive or exciting about it.

For this product to come from such a BIG brand in musicmaking/djing is the big let-down in particular.
Compare it to the likes of NanoStudio - it was built by ONE guy and not a team of developers, not a big brand with lots of money behind it ... just ONE guy.

I really hope that NI look at all these dissapointed comments and offer something that gives user a whole lot more in the future in updates or even an ipad specific app that takes advantage of the screen real estate.

People are tripping over a version 1 piece of mobile software that only cost $5 and expecting it to be the second coming of the MPC. Chill and enjoy it for what it is. A $5 beatmaker's sketchpad that is compatible (i.e. compliments) the Maschine platform. The fact that it is not yet a universal Iphone/Ipad app. is not a big deal. At least we Ipad users are able to fully use it in its current state. Use some creativity to make up for the shortcomings. Back in the day when the tools were in their infancy, artististic crativity was at its highest. Samplers were limited to a few seconds, disk storage was severely limited, etc. yet the songs that were produced are legendary. Today we have folks whining and complaining that companies and programmers are not giving them "complete" song producing tools...on their freaking cell phones for crying out loud!

Whew, had to get that off my chest. i'm good now. Peace

Could not have said it better myself. If people want to trip over iMaschine and bemoan how it hurt their feelings or whatever instead of getting down to business and getting some work done with it, let 'em. For me, I made a beat at lunch using some found-sound around the office that I'm going to flesh out at home. This idea would have been lost if it weren't for iMaschine, but I was able to capitalize on it when the creative urge struck. That's priceless -- but I'll gladly fork over $5 for a totally capable app.

    Thanks NI!

So what APPs out there allow you to start something a take it directly to Maschine?

That is the big selling point of iMaschine.
It's not trying to allow you to use your i-product to replace Maschine or be a total production tool.

My only reason for talking about the 2x mode is because I have big hands so it mkaes it easier to use my iPad when things use the resolution.

    I agree.
There are plenty of apps out there that look ugly and pixelated when in 2X mode.
iMaschine looks fine compared to most.

I bought Tabletop when it was on sale this week. It has its own set of obnoxious limitations; I mean, all the upselling is annoying on its own. You get an 8 channel mixer when you buy the app, but a 2 channel xfade mixer cost me $3 & a 4 channel with sends is $10, for instance. And they charge separately for low, high, and band pass filters.

But—it's a pretty complete song producing tool:
    [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gW5jfdl-rPI"]Tabletop: Salva - Building a Song - YouTube[/ame]

Not shown in that video are it's fairly well executed sequencer or any of the new effects that just came out (compressor, limiter, bitcrusher, etc). Again, there are weak spots. The app (now) has a turntable and a recorder but no audio editor or audio copy (it can paste), and an MPCvariant drum interface/"sampler" that can load your recordings but can't slice/chop. Sometimes I just stare at it for a minute, say "almost," then go do something else. And it can definitely overload an iPad 1 if you open too many effects.

    Still pretty cool though.

I don't own such a fancy stuff like ipad/pod/phone - but a portable Maschine for sitting in the park...

    Hmm, no patterns/scenes:(

Is it then at least possible to mute/unmute sounds to get an rough idea for an arrangement?

You can mute groups or individual pads on the sampler instrument. No solo, but mute for certain!

I like it so far, but can anyone tell me how to get to the pattern edit page? I don't see one anywhere.

I'm enjoying it for what it is! Much more fun than Synthstation turned out to be (unfortunately). I have yet to plug it into the Synthstation 25 controller to see if that works.

I'm confident that this thing will grow in features as it upgrades, but I'm kinda surprised they would even put out a product like this when Beatmaker2 does what it does. It's pretty good at it's price, I can't argue with that, and the ability to upload to the big brother is killer, but I was pretty much stunned by the lack of effects options/routing.

Not impressed by this app. NI really have to improve this one a lot before I'll be using it; more and better effects, 2 blocks per channel at least (with x-y style control) + piano style editing should be top priorities for NI now.

I'm here at work now, and have alot of fun for my 3,99 Euro, so thanks NI ;-)
Of course it does not turn my iPhone into a Groove Production Center, but into a little Groove Production Spot.
No crashes so far, a few ideas to save and I spend much more for other apps with less function ;-)

Downloaded today and I must say that if the Maschine HARDWARE was this easy I would actually be using it more.

The Maschine hardware is so counter intuitive and difficult to use in the long run.

For example... iMaschine detects how long your loop is by how long you record... I mean WTF can't we get some nice features like that on the Maschine Hardware?

We can't even do a true "UNDO" on the Maschine Hardware without having to first select the pad and going to into keyboard (pad) mode.

So far, this is the best sketch pad I've ever seen on an iOS device.
    Great job.
Now just get it together with the Maschine Hardware.

Gotta say that so far iMaschine has proven to a nice little APP for testing out rough ideas.
The only problem I have run into is being careful not to activate the 1x button when programming and shrinking the screen.
I haven't tried sending anything to Maschine yet but it that works out as described it will really open opportunities for getting ideas out.

I'm a novice in most of these things and I've never found any of these related apps all that intuitive...old age probably. iMaschine is no different and it seems quite limited however in terms of cost I have no complaints.

Maschine itself imho is on a whole other level in usability out of the box....

A great app although a couple of observations

    a) On some longer samples via the pads they cut off during the song... this may be due to processing power perhaps but would be good if you could set priority for vocal samples if this is the case.

    b) Sample edit start and end point would massively enhance this app

    c) Automation of effects on off and mix would be useful

    d) ability to see and build your songs in a timeline would be cool

    e) support for 24 bit sample rate

Other than that this is a great sketchpad tool but could be used more semi professionally if more feature were added

    Nice one
