Importing Kore 2 Soundpacks

I'm surprised I couldn't find an answer by searching here, so here goes.

Around 2008 I purchased a number of Kore 2 'Sound Packs', eg True Strike Tension.

I never owned 'Kore'... only 'Kore Player'.

Is there a way to open the KSDs in Kontakt 5? I read some anecdotes on the web about how these Sound Packs also come with NKIs but I re-installed True Strike Tension yesterday from my original D/L and can't find them anywhere. Perhaps that's an urban myth?

Anyhoo, are there NKIs available, or is there some other method? I'd like to keep all my content manageable in Kontakt if possible.

    TIA,

    ---JC

Thanks. Reading that kb entry helped me realise what to do... There -are- NKIs for soundpacks like True Strike Tension.

But they're like 6 levels -down- from the 'NI Compilation I' folder... which is totally incomprehensible as well... But anyhoo... they -are- there. And they -do- open in K5. So I'm copying the NKIs to a proper location and having the database re-scan.

Here's the odd thing: when I fired up K3, it found the NKIs right away... automagically. K5? Nope. Had to manually hunt around.

Now that I can read them I realise kinda why Kore died... all the patches have these descriptive names that don't really -say- what they are. IOW: I'm starting to get that any product like Kore that tries to organise sounds for you is bound to fail (even though the speed/hardware was no day at the beach either!). After 12 years I'm still trying to figure out how to find sounds that I need using -words-. I always fall back on manufacturer and lib name (and my memory). Trying to swim through 10,000 'brass' sounds is always gonna be a -mess-.

Frankly, I wish MIDI had put some standardised categorisation scheme in there that all vendors had to abide by. But when was MIDI last updated?

    <sigh>

    All's well that ends well.

Glad you found a way to make it work!

I didn't think it was possible, if only because Kore has different ways of altering the patches than what Kontakt offers. If something's been added to Kontakt 5 that allows Kore files to be played, I may look into it. I really like the Kore player (and the patches I've already bought), but I'd been told there was no way to work it into Kontakt 4.

And yes, after a while, managing all these different sounds is getting to be a nightmare!

That's not the case - you can search by plugins or engines used in each sound if you want as well as display which components are involved in the composition each sound in the list view. To break up composite patches like in TST you can open the patch in Kore then open up each individual component - some use Kontakt, some use Guitar Rig, or both, and save the component sounds in each app separately.

Just to be clear: you can open the NKIs... Haven't tried the KSDs or -whatever- the other formats are.

WOW. I'm gonna definitely try that. I've got 2 or 3 sounds I use a LOT in Kore Player. If I could get them saved into the 'source' format, that would be -great- news.

But re. the whole 'patch selection' thing. Kore was always -way- too slow loading/switching sounds. And since I end up using a LOT of VSTis, it's only useful if you commit to using NI. I don't wanna get into a whole rant about Steinberg's Mediabay and other 'solutions' but what the world -really- needs is something in MIDI for organising sounds.

    THANKS!

Is there anything you can do if the 'Engine' displays as Kore Player? Some of the patches are great and I can tell they're just samples with some modulation (like that that Ice pad which is just a recorder with a separate noise layer.) I'd love to be able to open and tweak in Kontakt... Or at least not have to load the Kore Player---which flakes out a LOT in Win7/64 in Cubase.

    Possible?

    TIA,

As far as I know True Strike Tension was the only Korepack that came with nki's. After I installed it they appeared in the True Strike Tension Samples folder. All other sounds you have to save as nki while opening the Kontakt module in Kore.

The Kore Player can only play and browse sounds that were sold for it. You can't open the plugins it uses. In Kore you can save any AU/VST setting and reopen, tweak and resave as koresound or original setting and reshape the browser window with your own tags and attributes. If I need a vintage sounding compressor for a drumkit, I go to the FX browser, select the drums, compressor, vintage attributes, order them by rating and I see all my favourite settings from all my compressor plugs.

If you only have the Kore Player you can still build instruments loading the samples in Kore, they're not encrypted. And koresounds only using Absynth, FM8, GR4 or Massive can also be opened by these programs. Just try importing the files in these programs, they will tell you if they can.

Oh sorry I misread - I thought you were talking about Kore seeing as you were complaining about its "limitations". You can't do this in Kore Player as it won't open the engines, but you can in Kore so you extrapolate from the limitations of Kore player to Kore full - it can do a lot more.

You can import Exhale in Paradise in Massive for editing.

? I tried opening the KSD in Massive and it won't work.

I only have Kore Player... not 'Kore'. So... how is this done?

    TIA,

In Massive 1.3: go to "file", choose "import ksd sound" and select the ksd from the Kore Player sounds folder. In older versions: right click on the ksd file and choose "open with..." and select Massive.

You'll loose your sound variations but you can probably recreate them using only the macro controls in the right bottom corner and save them as new sounds.

    THANKS!

Obviously, it's right in front on the Files menu. D'Oh!

    1. But if NI watches this... I'm tellin' ya... between having 4,000 10(42) sample libs and VSTis I just can't keep track of all this.

    2. Look, NI... I dunno if this is a Windows thing but your namespacing scheme STINKS. If you look @ the directory structure for where NI files are stored it's RIDONCULOUS. If you guys would just got old skool and simply install EVERYTHING relevant to ALL NI apps in ONE spot on my hard drive I'd be -much- happier.

Been biting my tongue since I read your complaint but I can't stop myself: I've got over sixty thousand batch imported patches for NI and third party instruments and effects on my computer that are stored in the Kore library (which is in one place) and Kore can easily find its way through them because of its batch metadata editor and word search :) It makes me feel bad for people who could use a good librarian for plug settings.

Can you elaborate? Are you still using 'Kore'? Or do you mean you created a Kontakt lib -named- 'Kore' in some way? If so, how? I do not own 'Kore'.

I would love some solution as comprehensive as you seem to have found.

    TIA.

Yes, I still use Kore 2, it's the first thing I open when I work on something. I've spent a ridiculous amount of time on it before it was discontinued but I still reap the benefits. Kore can load plugins and store their presets as koresounds and with many plugins you can batch import all presets at once. Google for "Kore 2" reviews if you want to know more, and then decide if it's for you because with the latest update Kore will stay pretty useful for years to come. The only downside is; once it'll stop working (you can forget about using it in the new ProTools, more and more plugins won't work in it and it doesn't get updates for new os's) there's nothing that can import the library. For musicians that rely heavily on Kore as a library tool the blow was the hardest, especially since there's no other program that can do that that actually works. Zen by BigTick is close but when I use it in Logic there's no midi through for NI plugs and Kontakt will not load at all. It also only works with the most recent version of plugins, so if you go back a version of a plugin because of bugs (like staying on FM8 version 1.03 because it can really import all DX7 and FM7 soundbanks and since version 1.04 it often fails) the plugin will not load in Zen.

    Thanks.

It sounds cool, but I think I'd rather suffer than learn a -new- tool. I keep praying that 'Mediabay' or -whatever- will start being useful. I can dream. :D

I believe there is an option to enable in one's user profile?
