Apologies if this has been covered, but I'm _trying_ to run Kontakt 1.51 on a Mac (10.3) & both as a standalone & when I start SX2 I get the same "insert Kontakt installation CD-ROM" message. The CD's in the tray but when I press OK, the message is repeated.

Is this a known bug & if so, what's the work-around for it?

    thanks in advance,
    sHack

That's very strange. I'm assuming this is a real Kontakt factory CD and not some copy? The copy protection is designed to defeat the use of copies, and if this is some kind of pirated version, you shouldn't expect it to work.

Assuming it is a real NI CD: try booting only Kontakt standalone (the application). Does that launch OK? Try putting the Kontakt install CD in the drive before launching Kontakt.

If all else fails, delete Kontakt from your hard drive and reinstall it. Make sure to delete its preferences before the reinstall. This should fix it.

Strange problem though; I haven't heard anyone else complain and I haven't had the problem myself.

Of course it's a real copy....and it's an upgrade I had to wait 2 weeks to get from them. It's been registered, authenticated & all the rest of the hoops they now put you through as a legitimate user & _BOTH_ in standalone & in SX2 I get the same message.

Please follow my other suggestions...then report back on whether that has fixed them for you.

In particular, the trashing of the prefs should reset the authorization issue and hopefully allow you to authorize normally.

    delete kontakt

Funny how that is always the solution in the Kontakt/ Reaktor... forum.

Does NI think that we have all the time in the world to re-install the application everytime there is a problem or it just will not work.

Luckily for us Kontakt is not an OS.

Did you first try the obvious one -> remove the kontakt pref files first -> restart and then if it still behaves badly -> re-install.

    just mho

Well, to be fair, I don't think I've ever had the problems being experienced here. My NI authorizations and upgrades have usually gone flawlessly.

The only reason I suggested the "trash prefs" solution is because I've noted in the past, if I'm troubleshooting my computer for other reasons and I trash all the prefs in my Preferences folder, I lose my NI authorizations. So my thinking is: trashing the Kontakt prefs should reset the authorization issue and perhaps allow it to authorize correctly.

I realize that it's a hassle to reinstall, and I agree that reinstalling shouldn't be something that users have to do regularly, but today's computers are such complicated beasts with millions of things that can potentially go wrong, that every so often, something does. So let's just try to constructively help each other get up and running. I honestly don't think NI's necessarily to blame in this particular case.

For what it's worth, I had no problems with the authorization, although there were a few moments of headscratching when going through the process.

Sorry if this seems obvious, but are you inserting your original Kontact 1.0 CD and not the update CD? I know the download update required the original CD.
