    Hello!

Is it possible to innstall products from NI on an external HD?And Is it then still possible to play back a recorded track without the external HD connected? If I record a track using NI synths on my Macbook, and want to show it to a friend, do I need to bring the external HD as well? Or do I only need it for recording tracks using synths innstalled on the extrenal HD?

    -Thanks!

Yes. I don't know the exact procedure, but from what I can tell you simply configure it as the destination.

Depends on context, for example how you recorded it and what you recored. Generally speaking this will probably not be possible.

    Once again depends on context.

If you set up a score using the synths, then export that as an audio file you'll end up with just that: an audio file which can be played anywhere. But if you use a DAW and then record something you're basically only recording MIDI data. And that's also all it is: data which determines which key gets hit, how hard and for how long. Obviously such data is useless if you don't have any instruments to play.

    Thanks for the reply!

I guess it will work as the same way as if a project is located on external HD. It must be connected to be used.
The reason I ask i because the Komplete 13 bundles is taking up more and more on my local HD.

I would personally recommend getting a second HDD or SSD installed in your system if possible
The reason for this is simply that this is always connected and would not resold in errors related to missing content

If you go to the Preference in Native Access You will be able to set the locations where things are installed to
The "Content location" should be on a folder in your Secondary drive (May be internal or external)
this should than install the content to that location
You might also want to move all existing content to this location as this would save you a lot of time having to re-install everything
it might cause an error in some cases and ask for the content location but that should only happen once per plugin
after the content dir is set correctly you should be fine

If i change the "Content location", will I loose my plugins thats Is installed on the SSD? or will the new ones be innstalled in my external drive, and the other ones will still be available?

NA "Content location" is used for installation location and nothing else, so by changing it, you will not lose access to any previously installed products, but all products going forward will be installed to the new location. So to answer your questions in order, "No" and "Yes"

OK, so you know, the Content location is not the VST plugin location, that is where the Kontakt Libraries and Expansions are installed. Mac uses a predetermined location for plugins that are outlined in the following articles.

VST plug-in locations on Mac OS X and macOS – Steinberg Support
Where are third-party Audio Units plug-ins installed on Mac? - Apple Support

(note: not a Mac user, so as far as I know these articles are relevant.

As far as the error goes, take a look at this NI Support Document. If any of the suggestions do not work to solve the issue, I would do as Nico @ NI suggested above and get in touch with Installation support.
