I purchased and installed Elektrik Piano two weeks ago, and am really enjoying it. It is an excellent product at a very reasonable price. However, I need to report a few issues regarding installation for other prospective buyers.

First, disc one is supposed to contain the program and the library, part one. It had library part three, instead. Disc two had library part one, instead of part two. Disc three had library part two, instead of part three.

Next, there was no mention of DFD in the instructions, or how to install it or use it. As I already had it and know how to use it from other NI products, this wasn't much of a problem for me, but would be for a new user.

Finally, the instructions also make no mention of how to put the library on a different hard drive than the program, which is fairly standard practice these days, especially for streaming libraries. Again, I already had some experience with this, but it still took a few attempts to get it right, and added a lot of time to the installation process.

I hope NI can address this in the next update, which I hope will coincide with the intel-Mac upgrades. The timetable for this has not yet been announced for EP by NI, unlike some of their other products, but I also hope is not too far off.

Thanks for a good product, NI, but a little sloppy in parts!

    Hi again,

you are right about the library part order. however, when I install on the PC, the installer just asks for CD 2 and CD 3. does this not work on the Mac?

    good points re DFD!

regarding the setup tips, I am thinking about the best way to compile and distribute those. there were a lot of great threats on this already on the Akoustik Piano forum where we could compile an FAQ from - possibly as a web download.

    Best,
    Markus

Thanks for the replies. In my case I did a custom install since I only wanted to install the AU version, and was planning to put the library on another drive. As a result, there was no prompting that I recall.

I was encouraged to read on the other recent thread that you do have plans to update Elektrik Piano for the new intel Macs later this year. I hope that happens, as I was thinking of upgrading in 2007.

    Thanks again.

I have not been able to install the library on a different drive other than my startup, and I'm wondering if this is a permission issue in MacOSX or if this is just part of what the program preferrs? Any ideas?

    Thank you,

Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm in the middle of a three week trip with limited computer access. I'll respond with more after I get home next week and can get to my system.

As you can see from my original post, I did the install back in February, so my memory is a little sketchy, but I'll describe the process as it worked for me with Elektrik Piano and other NI instruments. I checked the custom install block and then checked the basic, AU and library boxes. Then, after part of the installation proceeded, a box appeared requesting a location for the library. After specifying my external hard drive and clicking OK, the installation continued to completion. I then registered and updated, and it worked fine, both stand-alone and with Logic. It still does, though be sure to use the R2 version of the 1.1 update. I'm still waiting for news on the universal Mac version, but so is everyone! Good luck.
