I just got Maschine, and I'm trying to install.

The installer of the installation DVD runs, and at a certain point a window pops up:

    "please insert Maschine"

So I guess I connect the USB... but nothing happens, and I'm stuck.
Also, when connecting the USB, windows tries to install drivers, but can't install maschine controller, only MIDI.

So I downloaded the latest driver from the website, and That about works, i guess...

Now I have a service center, which I do not have any software to register in...
And I have a Controller Editor, yey I can edit controlls...

Where is the maschine sequencer/software? is it because the regular installer fails that I do not get it?

Or is it all included when installing Komplete elements that came with it...

I managed to get the software installed, I had to uncheck library from the installation...
    So where is my library?

If it says Please insert Maschine i assume you're supposed to insert a DVD. NI installs are notiorious for not installing properly if you don't install by CD/DVD.

that's what I though, but I do not have a aptical drive...
So I made an iso file on my linux laptop, and mounted that on my installation PC...

But I still have the same problem...

So the library on the maschine software installation DVD is supposed to contain 6GB maschine samples?
Because the ISO file is only 500MB.....

I'm starting to think I got a crooked installer DVD, or maybe I'm missing another DVD?

All I know is that for NI installation software a mounted ISO-file is not the same as an actual CD/DVD drive. Seems unfair but there it is.
If only you could get your hands on an external DVD drive that you could connect to your Linux machine.

my linux has a DVD drive, I used it to make an iso of the DVD...
But the DVD is only 500 megs so how can it contain 6 gigs samples?

I will try to get my hands on an external drive at work and try it directly instead of through a mounted ISO.

And BTW, AFAIK windows does not know the drive is virtual or physical, so I don't think a mounted ISO would make much difference?

    hi,

would be great if you updated the thread with your communication from NI, so we all know what's the deal, and for future reference...

I'm going to try and install it on another pc today, and if it does not work, take the dvd back to the store and get another one...
    ---
OK, so it's definitively a problem with virtual drives, on the other pc I tried it installed as it should...

So I completed the install, it is now updating the library, After that I will copy the library folder to my PC on which I need it.
    Hopefully that won't cause problems...

The least I can say is that in this world where optical drives are increasingly less available on new computers it is embarrassing to see such a technological company fall behind on things like this...
And I'm pretty sure I'm not the first one to encounter such problems, so why is this mentioned nowhere? Crank it up a notch NI...
the least u could do is put it on the FAQ or something...

can you tell me where the maschine serial number is located? I received product on monday and tried to register on NI.com what looks like a serial number on the underside of the unit, in the instruction manual it tells me there should be a serial number card contained in box, i do not have one and i am currently in dispute with the retailer from where i purchased the maschine. Also do you need to have the maschine registered to download the new 1.7 update in sept?

My serial number was on the back of the DVD case, not sure if they changed that since 1.5, but you might want to check there. Also yes, you do need to have that registered before downloading 1.7 since it will be a protected update if history is anything to go by.

hello again, i installed maschine disc onto my parents xp pc, copied files across onto usb flash drive and have moved contents onto my laptop, however i registered the serial number on my parents pc using the service centre, now when i boot up maschine on my own laptop it asks me to register product, so when i open up the NI service centre app, maschine is not listed in the product overview, i cannot use it, i have emailed NI tech support for the 2nd time tonight, still not had a reply from mondays email, this is doin my head in

Of course it knows the difference and it does matter.
Very similar to how some installation disk have files that can't be copied to image that the install looks for to prevent cloning and sharing.

This thread is WAY old, but I figured I'd help out someone else (like me) who was searching for a solution. I was trying to move computers and install Komplete Elements MK2 again, but didn't have the disc, and had no drive either. I was able to use VirtualClone to get this working. One of the thing I thought I could do was copy the CONTENTS of the ISO to my hard drive and then launch it figuring it would work. It doesn't I had to mount the ISO and then launch that .exe file, then it worked. To the question of "where is the library content" I was wondering the same thing,... but I found out that if you show hidden files you'll see more of the content and a "subinstallers" folder., it's mixed in there somewhere.
