I installed Akoustik by choosing the 16bit versions. What do I need to do to install the 24 bit versions.

    Hi !
I had the same prob sometime ago.
There are 2 ways to do this :

1.) A complete deinstallation and new installation of AP w/ all the updates and activations ... or :

    2.)
Delete 16Bit sample folder from your sample harddrive and keep the default- and preset-folders of AP as also the installation on your system drive as it is.
Simple copy the 24Bit sample folder(s) from the AP media(s) into the same locations where the 16Bit versions have been before, - the general sample folder in AP Library.
Defragment the HD and launch AP standalone to check if it recognizes the library. It did on my machine and it works low latency in realtime (Win XP home Pentium P4 2.4 GHz).

Thes something confusig after copying/installing 24Bit library of AP. IN the Concert Grand Samples II folder there are 16Bit samples too which is also the case on the orig. DVD ! So don´t mind. I never got any explanation by NI regarding this.

hope that helps and hope you´re on a Win machine w/ XP32 home or pro.

    Kay,
I reinstalled AP with 24bit when the program because nonfunctional with the error message, "warning, can't load default config. Check installation."
But now I find the latency is too high and I want to return to the 16 bit version. Is that possible with your same directions?

    Hi !
There must be something wrong in general w/ your installation of AP. I myself didn´t get this warning after changing to 24Bit library the way I described. I didn´t return to 16Bit up to now. Latency is good here w/ 24Bit Library.
    Advise:
In the AP folder of your system drive there should be:
    "default" folder / documentation folder/ VST folder /UNWISE/Service Center Setup/Readme/INSTALL/AkoustikPiano exe !
I directed library installation to another drive (into a folder I created for ALL my NI sample libraries) - in "AkoustikPiano Library" folder you now should see:
"Default" (folder) and in this folder the Steingraeber /ConcertGrand/Boesendorfer and Bechstein .nki(s) as also AP-def .nkm
In addition "Presets" folder w/ 19 files ...
    AkoustikPiano_info .nkx and AcoustikPiano_info .nkc

"Samples"-folder with subfolders for the 4 pianos and Impulses...
In "Impulses" 16 wav-files and in each instruments-subfolder for samples,-2 additional subfolders, - Samples I and Samples II.

Important: In the Akoustik Piano\default on your system drive there are only 2 files then: outputs_vst .cfg and outputs_sta .cfg

This works for sure, if all the folders and files are in the right locations except the samples I + II folders which you can exchange freely in right order(depending on 16- or 24Bit lib) by copying from the DVDs.
And it works w/ low latency, even on older machines like mine.

    hope that helps now ...

    Thanks, Kay

For now I'm afraid to touch the settings I have. It wasn't the installation of the 24 bit that caused the problem. I'm getting a new desktop up and going and with defragging and adding things to the Hd's I might have done something to AP. But I printed out your notes when I get brave enough to make some changes.

I find Akoustik Piano very unstable and I never can count on it turning on when I want it. Right now it works, and I don't have hours and days to have it go down again. But I will eventually study what I need to know about the folders.

    Hi joangolfing !

If your AP is unstable, - there´s definetely something wrong w/ your general installation. IMO, all this causes the faults, - so, if I were you, I wouldn´t mind ´bout time needed for correction of the issues, - it´s much simpler do do a complete new install w/ activation which was flawless here and w/ the Service Center.

It´s relatively fast and the most time needed is for copying the samples. If the general installation and activation is o.k., in principle you´re done ´cause it results in exactly the prg/folder structure,I described in my former post,-just by itself.

1.) Install AP out of the box, - possibly you´ll not get the possibility to direct the installation for the library to a 2nd HD drive then (I remember this AFAIK)

2.) Update the Service Center and activate ...
2a) Run AP in standalone and do the audio/midi settings ...

3.) Install the "AkoustikPiano_112U_Win" update, - this opens the window for selection of a location for the Library !
Choose the 24bit or 16Bit Library and the desired location.
In this case, all .nki-files and the "impulses" folder will be written in the right locations by the prg. and library installers of the 1st DVD automatically. Go on w/ all the library DVDs ´til the end.

In my updates-folder here on my machine, there I have separate zip-files for the AP_def and the 4 Piano nki (all date 11/23/2006 if unzipped), - this are the ones which have to be in the "Default" folder on the same drive the Library is located and within the AP-Library folder then!
(If you probably don´t have these, - I can mail ´em privately on your demand). Check these versions !

Take also care, there´s a 2nd vst-plugins folder created by NIs installer within the Steinberg public vst-plugins folder, - you´ll find the actual vst-dll of AP in THIS folder, - so put it out and back into the normal Steinberg public vst-plugins folder (not Cubase VST plugins folder ! )

    4.)
If this is done, update Service Center, activate AP again and run AP in standalone 1st, do the settings if necessary - and then run it in VST mode in Cubase.

It sounds more complicated as it is, if you read it here, - it´s just 4 steps to do and some checking.

    good luck ...

Should I let it install in my first Hard Drive and forget about trying to put it into my secondary HD where I want it to be.

Then there is the installation of something with the update. It doesn't let me put it inside AP. It forces me to choose Accessories and a few other places that don't seem to have anything at all to do with AP. So then I choose something not knowing what I am doing or where or why it is going there.

I would just like to install it without having to choose these strange places for it to go? Or having to move little files around from one place to another.

I had installed Band in a Box and Power Tracks and some of their programs get combined with AP's. I'm still lost.

Here is my Akoustik Piano setup:
On my D Drive: Secondary hard drive

Program files have 6 folders 6 files
Akoustik Piano has 6 folders 7 files
    Backup--bbw_12_backup2
Native Instruments has Akoustik piano and VST plugins
Akoustik Piano library has defaults, presets, demos, samples info.nkx, info.nkc
    Common Files--digidesign
    Power Tracks Direct X Plugins
    files:
    --BB Tool bar2
    Default7BBC
    Intrface.bbw
    BBToolbar5
    Default.ali
    MySetup.DK

I suspect my Band in a Box and Power Tracks files got embedded in my Akoustik files. Which of these can I put in other places safely.

    Hi !

It depends on you to where you install the library at least, - the prg. itself will be installed to your system drive anyway, - will say: All will be at the right locations and in the right folders if you install everything on your system drive, - w/ one exception: The vst plugin dll. This is what you have to move a bit ´cause NIs installers create an own vstplugins folder containing the dll.

I wouldn´t recommend installing the library on the system drive, ´cause DFD works better w/ the samples on a 2nd(or separate) drive, I have 3 internal and one external drives.

As I mentioned, - if you select a different drive for the library during the installation, the AP_def and the .nki(s) have to be in the default folder in AP library on the 2nd/different drive, that´s all. Do a check if this is the case, - if yes, the installer worked fine and you have to move nothing then, except the vst-dll.

I don´t know how old your boxed AP is, I got it very early w/ Komplete4. In my case, the installer on that DVDs was a bit strange, so I couldn´t select a different drive for the library installation 1st, - this came w/ the update.

So, if you see this selector box during the installation, just select which plugs to install (standalone / VST/ RTAS/DX, - standalone and VST in my case) and select the location for the library as also the library type and you´re fine.

From this point, - put in all the DVDs for the samples and wait ´til these are copied to your samples drive. Defragment this drive later which optimizes performance.
Launch AP in standalone, do the audio/midi settings, - play it.
Close AP,-launch Cubase, it will scan the vst plugins folder, open a new project and select AP in the VST instruments rack, play it.

I don´t use BAB and Pwr Trcks, in so far I only pressume you have to redo some adjustments regarding these apps then.

Looks strange ! Deinstall BAB and Pwr Trcks as also AP 1st, - then follow my instructions of my last post. Install AP 1st, run it. If it´s perfect, install the next 2 apps one by one.
Have in mind to install all the apps to your system drive ( which is C: in my case ) and only the librarie(s) w/ samples content to another drive. So, if BAB and PwrTrcks contain no samples, - just install these to your system drive.

    Thank, Kay

I'm getting closer. I deleted the 6 files from Band in a Box that were in my D: Program folder since I've taken that program off my system for now. When it didn't uninstall automatically I deleted it and didn't know these belonged to that program.

So now, on my D drive I just have the 6 folders containing Akoustik piano folders. On C drive I have a Program folder with Native Instruments and inside that the Service Center.

It all seems to work smoothly from there.

I didn't create a Steinberg folder since I don't use VST plugins yet. However, the VST.dll that came with the 1.1.2 update is in the Native Instrument folder--VST plugins.

    It seems quite stable.

I found another folder from BIAB on D drive: I deleted Backup. Now I have 5 folders inside the Program folder on D drive: Akoustik piano, Native Instruments, Akoustik Piano Library, Common files and Default (with outputs_sta.cfg.) Does this Default folder belong to AP?

My 24 bit samples are working quite nicely with AP. And I won't be reverting to 16bit at least for now.

    Hi !

You yourself don´t have to create a Steinberg vstplugins folder, - this is what any host is doing anyway.
If you want to use any NI instrument as a VST plugin in any VST host, the VST.dll being in p.ex. C:/Programs/NI AkoustikPiano/VST should be moved to this already exsisting C:/Programs/Steinberg/vstplugins (folder).
If it looks like: C:/Programs/Steinberg/vstplugins/vstplugins ...
the last folder would be the one the NI installer creates in addition, - containing the VST dll. In this case, you have to move it 1 level up in the folder structure and to delete the last vstplugins-folder (see above).
This is only if you use a VST host and AP as a VST plugin.

    O.k. ?

In system, - p.ex. C:/ you find NI program(s), - looks like this:

    C:/Programs/Native Instruments/AkoustikPano

This is where the Program itself should be located and there you find a folder called "default" w/ outputs_sta.cfg and outputs_vst.cfg

If C:/ isn´t your audio boot partition, the it should like this in any other boot partition also, - p.ex. D:/

I don´t know how your computers drives are organized ...
