Solved Installing dxi after the fact?

Migrating to a new computer, and I think I may have installed in the "wrong" order. I used Native Access to install all of my NI products that it would, including FM8. I have some old projects that I still work on from time to time that use the dxi, which does not install from Native Access. Now when I try to use my original installation disk to install the dxi, it asks me to either run in demo mode or activate in Service Center. if I go to Service Center it doesn't show up in products needing to be activated since Native Access has already activated the standalone and VST. I cannot figure out a way to get it activated. I would simply replace the dxi version with the VST version in my Sonar projects, but in some cases I don't know what preset was used and would never find it again.

I've tried uninstalling it and reinstalling FM8, but the Native Access activation doesn't go away even after uninstalling FM8, so I'm right back where I started when I reinstall. I've also tried entering my FM8 serial number in Native Access, thinking that maybe the installation done by Native Access used a Komplete serial number and that the original might still be "available" for a fresh dxi install. Same result. In Service Center, by the way, the serial number that shows up is the original FM8 one. I've considered uninstalling both FM8 and Native Access, then reinstalling NI first - with the dxi, VST, and standalone, and then installing Native Access. But I'm afraid that might wreak havoc with my whole array of NI products - would it?

I don't recall FM8 ever had a DXi version, you might be talking about FM7?

No, FM8 had a dxi through several versions. It installs from my original disk and also from some of the updates I downloaded. Running it as a demo, the dxi did not cause a problem opening my Sonar project that used the dxi, but as I said it was in demo mode and therefore would not automatically load whatever preset was used in the song. If I knew what presets I had used, I would simply replace the dxi with the VST in all of my projects that used it, but unfortunately I didn't keep tabs on what presets were used. I know better now.

You should be able to use this tool to completely uninstall FM8 from your computer. This should also remove it from NA. Then install from your disk, then update to latest version. Make sure to backup the DXi files somewhere, in case the update over NA removes them!

Then convert your projects to VSTi and be happy about it. DXi is so dead... :)

Thanks. First time I ran it, it did nothing. FM8 staill showed up as installed / registered in Native Access and in Service Center. I ran it again and it disappeared form both. I then installed FM8 from my original disk and checked standalone, VST, and dxi. i noticed that it skipped copying the standalone and the VST which made sense given that the tool you sent me the link to just deleted registry entries, not files. I then started Service Center and weirdly what showed up as needing to be registered was Komplete 10. I say weird because I'm pretty sure I have never installed FM8 with it, and definitely not on my new computer. Anyway, I let it register and also wondered what would happen with the dxi since (I'm pretty sure) the version in Komplete 10 was post-dxi. To my surprise, the dxi now runs fine! So again, thank you.
