    There's been lots of problems with this, and it's not documented at all (my fault; I should have made a sticky earlier). Here's the best way to do it;

Install Komplete 4 AND all updates to it first. Then, copy (don't move) your NI plugins to another temporary location before installing KORE. Then, install and activate KORE (don't plug in the controller). Don't install the controller driver OR the Service Center version, and don't start KORE yet.

Download the 1.1 update and the troubleshooting guide. The troubleshooting guide's in the Service Center; it's in the manuals category of the dropdown at the top of the update manager in the Service Center.

Install the 1.1 update; this time, install the controller drivers and plug in the controller when prompted to do so.
Move the plugins you copied back to their original location. Start KORE for the first time, and scan your plugin folder and build your database.
    Done.

    EDIT- 5/15/07
When installing the K4 upgrade/KORE bundle, it's recommended that you install KORE first.

Hi Eric, first you say to copy(vs move) the plugins to a temp location, then you say to move them back. Since there are already the originals there, is an overwrite necessary? Also, whats the logic in moving the plugins around?

    Thanks man,

    Jonathan :)

You're right, I should have explained the logic behind this move...

The KORE installer DVD is still at a 1.0.x version as far as I know. The reason why you copy your NI plugins to a temp location is because the KORE DVD installer WILL overwrite your plugins with older versions. By copying them to a temp location and moving them back to their original location after the install, you're using the latest version of the plugins.

The only exception to this is if you're still using some of the K3 versions (Absynth 3, FM7, Battery 2, Intakt and Kompakt). With those, you'd use the plugin version that KORE installs.

It looks like I did this in the wrong order. I installed Komplete 4 first then Kore. From what I can gather from your first post, it looks like Kore overwrote a lot of the instruments from the Komplete 4 install. What is the best way to fix this? I'm playing with Kore and it doesn't want to see any of the instrumemts.

Should I reinstall Komplete 4 and do the updates again? Can I do a "repair" with the Komplete installer?

And another post talks about "putting all the VST plug-ins in one folder". Do I need to go around and look for ALL VST folders (I've got several other apps-PT 7.3, Reason, etc) on my machine)? As you can tell, I'm kinda new and it's been a difficult journey to get this far with the NI stuff.

    Thanks,
    BK

Another question trying to fix this:

In the troubleshooting manual (found it no problem in the home page of NI-not the Service Center!!) it talks about "you need to choose carefully where it will install the VST plug-ins....". Since I've already done the installation of Komplete 4 THEN Kore THEN Komplete and KORE updaters, it looks like lots of stuff might have been overwritten by the Kore installer and that I just chose default folders when installing and updating. Can I do a search for "VST" and just move all those into a new folder called "VST Plug-ins" and be done with it?

Or is this going to seriously hose things up?

Or should I start over and un-install EVERYTHING and start over in the order listed at the beggining of this thread?

    Whew......

The clock shows approx 26 hours total dedicated to getting Komplete 4 and Kore up and running glitch free. Can't wait for the end........

    Thanks for the help,
    BK

    Welcome :)

I'd be tempted in your situation to reinstall everything just to make sure it goes smoothly.

If you DO go this route, after uninstalling, do a search for anything named Native Instruments (use include hidden files and folders in Windows; on a Mac, just search for anything related) and delete ALL of it. Otherwise, you could run into authoriation issues.
Reboot, and follow the steps I gave.

With Windows, KORE only recognizes one plugin folder, so all your VST plugins should be there. This isn't an issue with a Mac, as there's only a few locations where plugins can be, and KORE will scan those automatically. Neither Reason or PT use VSTs natively; Reason can't at all, and PT only can through a wrapper of some form (such as KORE; KORE acts as a VST/AU wrapper in PT), so that's a moot point.

Out of curiosity: is there any reason to install the 1.0 version of Kore from the CD at all? I installed Komplete 4, all of its updates, and then activated Komplete 4.

Then I installed Massive and activated it.

Finally, I installed Kore 1.1 from the downloaded update (i.e. I never touched the original install CD) and activated that. I rebuilt the database.

EDIT: Just remembered something! I went to all of the Komplete 4 VST folders (it installs into those even if you ask it to put the VSTs into, say, C:\Program Files\VSTPlugins) and those VSTs to my main VST folder if they were newer versions (and some were).

    Everything seems to work fine.

Is this an alternate method, or have I broken something, but don't know it yet?

    Thanks! Alex.

    ew,
I drank way too much coffee yesterday (Seattle!!) and was up late so I started to uninstall and insall as per your instructions. I'm almost done (no-didn't stay up all night).

I didn't search for EVERY folder with NI on it but got most and I've activated Kore and Komplete and that worked. Currently I'm install the remaining libraries and then I will boot Kore and do the directory search.

So should any and ALL VSTs be in one folder? I did that during the Komplete install and directed them to a VST folder inside Programs. But then I see that there are VST folders in each of the instrument folders in Native Instruments within Programs. Should I move ALL of these also? Whew-they don't make this easy.

I notice that the "VST"s that during install of Komplete asked me for a VST directory are mostly DLLs. Is that all there is to a VST or should I move the stuff that's in the individual folders also?

Thanks for the help-hopefully NI will put this documentation in their installation guide for futur Komplete and Kore users.

If you have copies of the .dlls in your main VST folder, you're OK. Some NI installers put a VST folder inside the program folder; those can stay where they are- IF there's copies of the .dlls in your main VST folder. If there aren't, I'd copy (NOT move) them to the proper location.

Yep; your plugins are .dlls. That's all that should be in your plugin folder in NI's case. Some third party plugins will put other data in wih the .dll; with NI, the .dll refers to the standalone app, so the other data's not needed in the plugin folder.

    ew,

Thanks for all this help. I'm on disc 5 of the libraries and I'll let you know how this goes.

This forum is really well done. Lots of well informed imediate responses to questions. I wish the PT DUC was as responsive!!!!

    ew,
It's mostly all working now. Re-installed everything and activated everything. Kore works and the database seems populated. It did tell me to rebuild the data base as things have changed. I'll do that tonight. but I was able to load sounds and manipulate with Kore. So that's good.

    Two problems:

    1) The Kore Hardware flashes some what randomly (different buttons or encoder light up and the screen bounces around to different things). Is this a sensitivity thing with the touch sensitive controls? If so, can it be adjusted?

    2) Reaktor 5 is now saying "You system ID has changedor is invalid, please use the Registration Tool in the app folder to re-register..."

I'm assuming this is old verbage for "Use the Service Center" as there is no "Registration Tool" in the Reaktor 5 app folder. I've tried to re-register but Service Center gives me no clue as to how to do this. Probably happened when I didn't delete EVERY NI file before re-installing.

    How can I fix this?

Again, thanks for the help and I'm glad it's all working (well almost).

Now to see how it works with PT!!

    Hi Alex,

it is generally recommended to install the full installer from the CD and then the latest update.
Installing the update without the first version is not tested at NI. It might work with the 1.1 update, but update installers generally do not guarantee that all necessary files and settings are copied!

Probably addressed elsewhere, but I could not find an answer.

I have Komplete4 installed with all updates. I would like to install the new KORE demo to give it a spin before I purchase. Do I need to do the recommended file moving (from above) or is this latest release of KORE demo fixed so I can proceed to install it without the additional steps?

    Hi gentleharp,

the Kore demo installer does not overwrite old plugin versions, you can proceed without moving plugins.

Yep, there's sensitivity controls. You can access them either from the last page of the options menu or from the controller itself.

I'm gathering you updated Reaktor to 5.1.2. Did you run the Service Center after you updated, ands have you run it in standalone after activating the update? If the answer's no to either of these, do so.

    Glad it's working :)

    ew,

I've just reinstalled only the latest update version of Reaktor(it appears that I downloaded and installed two Reaktor updates and installed both of them-probably the older version last which might have caused the problem) and now all is well.

    Almost.....

Does Pro 53 not work with Kore yet? When I update the database, the Pro 53 sounds don't show up unless I load plug-ins.

Also, when I do update the database, there is a box that lets you add directories. Is this where it's looking for things to populate the databast with? Or is this where it's storing the database? If the former-do i need to add every instrument directory?

Again, thanks so much for helping me get this all working. This forum has answered every question and solved almost every problem I've had in a VERY timely manner and that is refreshing.

I've been reading this thread and the replies about the installation order on kore and komplete.

    Let me get this straight.....

The problem i've encoutered is that Kore doesn't seem to get al the instruments and sounds from the library. Although i can see the instruments in Kore it leaves sounds greyed out.

Is this due to the problem wich you are talking about?

For my rather inexperienced mind on softsynths this is how i understand the sequence of installations and updates:

    *First i instal Komplete.
*Then i register, activate and update Komplete.
*I move al the Komplete data from the applications folder and VST folder into a selfmade Temp folder.
*I install Kore from the CD
*I register and activate Kore en get the 1.1 update
*After that i move the Temp data back into the initial folders (overwriting the possible Kore installated plugs)

If this is right i only have two questions:
1)Where do i load the sample libraries? can i put them in any folder as long as i let the apps. know in wich folder to look, or is there a right way to do this?

    2) I also use absynth2 on my system. Should i remove it from my system as long as the Komplete and Kore is'nt working and install it back later?

    Waiting for good advise....

    Greetz,

    Dennis

I don't get exactly what you mean there. If you mean that Pro-53 in standalone doesn't use a KORE style database, yeah you're right.

The box you're asking about is for adding directories with user content. If you're using the default location, there's no reason to add anything; KORE will scan the subfolders automatically. The location with the factory content location is ALWAYS scanned, but you can't write to it.
