Instrumental Song

This is a 'remix' I made of music from the PS2 video game "Shadow of the Colossus" with a couple of people. I recorded all guitars using a Gibson SG Angus Young Signature model for rhythm guitars, an Ibanez RG1620DX with DiMarzio Evolutions for lead guitars, and Guitar Rig 2 for guitar and bass tones. Programmed drums and synths, and mixed in Cubase SX 3. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Awesome stuff. I gotta get into video games, maybe it would improve my playing as well...

 

Love the feel of the piece. Love the guitar work. My only criticism (and it's one I find in a great deal of music - with real as well as programmed drums) is that there is far too much use of cymbal. There comes a point where over-use of cymbals leads to a sort of pulsing hiss. For me (and I fully accept that this could just be a personal quirk) cymbals, especially loud crash cymbals, are best used for occasional accents or, at most, to mark a wider beat.

But, whinging aside, I think you have made a piece to be proud of.

 

Impressive, I like it. For me the quantity of the cymbals is fine, but they seem a little too close. I'd perhaps try to give it more highpass-filter.

bad ass! great tones! what are you using for rhythm tones?

 

Don't remember exactly, but I think it was the Gratifier on the Raw setting, Gratifier 4x12 with the 57 mic and some EQ and reverb in Cubase.
