I have been monitoring the list of expected updates for intel based macs and till yesterday guitar combos was slated for a 3rd quarter release date. Checking today guitar combos has now disappeared off the list! Is it now compatible? Is it abandoned? What? For several weeks both guitar combos and guitar rig had 3rd quarter listed as the time the compatability issue was to be sorted but then guitar rig slipped to October. My assumption was that guitar combos would thus be first to be sorted out. Anyone enlighten me?
    cheers

I got a reply from support saying that they had decided not to upgrade the combos, a bit of a pain as it means I've wasted 55 pounds on a bit of software they have now said they aren't going to make run on any modern Mac.

To make this clear, it won't work in Logic, or standalone, so it is a complete waste of money for anyone with an intel mac. Interestingly this is no longer made clear on the combos product page.

If you can afford a Mac then money no issue, so it must be that your disappointed you can't take advantage of these great plugs. For me this will probably be the last German made product I'll purchase anyway, their just going nuts over this dongle BS. They've all got some great stuff but it's just not worth the hassle after spending the money to get it and then have limited use of it over it's lifetime. IK, Steinberg, and Native, too bad you've got some great stuff.

All is not lost! Here's the answer I got from NI:

the development of the Guitar Combos has been stopped but we will provide you with a product that will replace the Guitar Combos. This crossgrade will be for free. At the moment I cannot give you any further details on this.

Hi, I bought on the software on the strength of knowing that an update was round the corner. The software runs on my MacBook but it won't pick up audio input from the line in. Is anyone using an audio input box thingamy jig like an M-Audio Fastrack?

    Cheers

In talking with the sales line in the US just now, they told me that NI corporate policy is that the only upgrade path is a crossgrade to Guitar Rig 2. This is validated by the website, which lists an upgrade path from Guitar Combos at $339 US. I do not want that upgrade. I already own PODXTlive and do not need or want another controller or somewhat expensive guitar software package. I am just a home hobbyist, not a pro.

If true, this is very disappointing, perhaps even unethical "bait-and-switch" style corporate behavior. I bought Guitar Combos as part of the NI-versary event, assuming there would be an Intel upgrade in the future (and I think this was so indicated on the website at the time). Now, it was only $59.99 US, so throwing that money away on a dead-end product does not mean that I will not be able to feed my kids and pay the mortgage. Nevertheless, I must say I feel swindled here and I find myself questioning the integrity of the company.

I believe they are releasing a software-only version of Guitar Rig 2 in November, thus you would not need to buy the version with the controller. I would assume they would offer a crossgrade for Guitar Combos users as well.

They've just posted about both the Guitar Rig UB update and the Kontakt UB update. If someone from NI is monitoring this thread, please give us some info about what is to replace Guitar Combos and when. PLEASE

I tried e-mailing the guy who posted sbout other UB updates, but he wasn't accepting e-mail. Nils Krueger, please answer us about what is to replace Guitar Combos and when. This is very frustrating, considering the GR and Kontakt updates promised have still not materialised. Respond please.

Yeah this really sux- I can't even get logged in to the registration system to change my reg from my G4 to my new MacBook Pro and now I hear it's not going to work anyway. What's with these guys anyway? I like the software, don't have cash for GRig. But the registration paranoia isn't worth dealing with. What other amp modeling software does someone recommend?

I received this email from NI:

    __________

    Dear **disfrontman**,

the Guitar Combos will be discontinued, Universal Binaries will not be provided. But we will offer a free solution for Guitar Combo users who want to install the Guitar Combos on an Intel based Mac. News concerning this subject will be announced within the close future.

    Best regards,

    Stefan Mueller

    ____________

I am still wondering just what will be done for us Guitar Combo customers with new Intel Macs. Any word? I have an upcoming recording project that I was intending to use NI software with, but now my hands are tied until this crossgrade solution is released.

    Help?!

This really stinks. Guitar Combos is the best sounding guitar amp sim (to me) between GC, Amplitude 2 Live, and Line 6 GearBox. At least I only paid $59. Hopefully they will have a good deal on Guitar Rig 2 w/o the Rig Kontrol. I have been using the GuitarPort (then GearBox) software since March, but I am extremely impressed with the tones of Guitar Combos.

    Hi Guys
I emailed NI re this query 2 days ago and have now had this reply
    Dear Stephen,

there\'s good news for you, the Guitar Combos will receive an Update to
be compatible with the Intel based Macs. At the moment I cannot give
you a release date but I can tell you that the Guitar Combos will
re-appear in the preliminary release schedule.

    Best regards,

    Stefan Mueller

It would be nice to think this release will be in time for our Christmas stockings but I'm not going to hold my breath!
    cheers
    Steve

    Hey intrepid NI programmers,

Any news from the land of Schnitzel, Kraut, Pretzels, Beer, and Chocolate? Can you give the rest of us an update on the UB progress with the Combos?

    Danke,

Is no-one from NI monitoring this thread? Is it not long or angry enough, like GR or Kontakt? Guys, a little information please? E-mails to tech support are always answered with the most vague replies, and requests for patience. Guitar Combos isn't even on the schedule, so please, NI, get someone to post here.

This is the e-mail I just received.

    "Hello Michael Zweig,

Sorry but we cannot provide a specific date when Guitar Combos will be ported to the Intel Mac platform. I would not look for it before early January in any event."

For anyone interested, I'm running AmpliTube 2.1, and though it has some kinks to be worked out, it actually has some great sounds (as well as being UB and cheaper than GR)
