So if one already has Komplete 13 Ultimate this would not be a benefit to purchase. Or do the Play Series get additional presets that aren't in the original instrument? I'm confused who this bundle is targeting in terms of customers.

If you have Komplete 13 Ultimate, I'd say it's not really for you. You'll find a lot of stuff you already have.

I can see this working for new users — getting used to the monthly drop, waiting in anticipation for a new toy to play with, getting addicted after a while and finally renewing the subscription :D

It would make a lot more sense to have subscriptions for the full Komplete bundles at a reasonable price, because not everyone has the budget to buy the bundles at full price.
Like I said in the thread I started in the Maschine forum: $9.99/mo for Komplete, $14.99/mo for Komplete Ultimate and $19.99/mo for Komplete Ultimate CE. That would be somewhat in line with the offers from the competition.

$9.99/mo for 8 plugins (with only one of them being a premium plugin) is just a terrible offer.

I guess time will tell but the idea is still to listen to feedback and take it from there. This is also not going to be 8 plug-in for long since Melted Vibes will be added in a few weeks. It's also free for three months, which means for now it's just a bonus for anyone.

Personally, I can't even imagine the feedback from our users if we introduced Komplete subs like you described.

Thanks Matt, that's all I needed to know. I'm simply not the audience for a subscription, I don't nearly use audio software often enough to make it worthwhile for me. I'm sure there'll be people enjoying such a subscription though, so, good luck for it.

Absolutely! I feel a lot of people won't read the blog post and so let me share a quick snippet:

"To state the obvious – we know that subscriptions are not for everyone. It is clear that a lot of our users want to keep buying our products in a way that is familiar to them, and we want to reassure everyone that subscription is just another way to get access. We are not making any changes to the existing ways of purchasing our products, and we are fully committed to investing in our perpetual portfolio. We will continue to keep our products updated to allow for continued use and development."

    Says it all I think.

That's fine, but what does the word 'today' mean in this context? Does this mean that in the future we will be restricted to subscription only?

I upgrade as and when I can afford it but a subscription only option would not work for me.

That's just me, it doesn't really mean much more than that. I'll actually edit it before every words get dissected :p
You can check the blog post if you need more information though.

I see now that you can get Battery 4 by subscription for £8.99 monthly, is this the way forward now and will it be all subscription soon, just wondered.

I don't know; I have Komplete 13 Ultimate, and this could be a nice way to get new Play Series instruments for cheap, so I can try them out. I'm disappointed Melted Vibes isn't available on day one, and it would be an easier decision if Maschine Expansions were included, but it's not that far off as it is.

I think I was more looking at it from the long term angle and what value you might get out of it. I don't have the details on all the monthly drops but I'm guessing there could be a lot of duplicate if you have Ultimate or CE.

Melted Vibes is next in line thought so that's indeed a good way to try things out, especially for free.

    Hi,

As a Komplete 13 Ultimate owner:
I could see the point in a subscription model for let's say somewhere around 150€ per year for the Ultimate contents, if it would let me use new products that might end up in Komplete Ultimate 14 from day one of their release.

As of now, I am mainly waiting until I upgrade or update and get a whole bunch of new content. A subscription model that would roughly translate to what I pay now once every two years or so evenly distributed across the timespan (and with the chance of a discount for going yearly payment) would at least have me consider a subscription. I'd get early access to new releases, pay roughly the same, but lose the chance to profit from sales twice a year.

Aaron McPherson brings up a good idea in terms of Maschine Kits being added. I actually thought having kits on Sounds.com was what the purpose of trying out new sounds was for. There are Play Series sounds and Expansion kits to try. The only thing missing are The instruments and EFX. I would like drums kits for Maschine though. It would need to be able to integrate just like full Maschine kits along with cover art and tags. There are certain drum sounds for current hip hop that I just don't clearly hear in expansion kits such as Certified Gold, Trill Rays and a couple others... The kits I find, even after a little sound design and EQ, compression are still almost but not quite there...... Maybe it's just me, everyday is a learning experience.......

Well... I guess so, but it has to be enticing enough to get those new users in the first place, as of right now 8 products seem too little but I might have this opinion due to not being the target audience. Paying for something now that might give me something useful tomorrow while I have zero control of what it could be is a bit 'meh' to me but then again it works perfectly for streaming services. I'm thinking the play series might become to K-Now what Expansions are for Maschine, a constant stream of new releases every other month, not sure if this is a good or bad thing tbh...

That would for sure make it easier to follow things, comparing K-Start, K-Select, K-X, K-X Ultimate, K-X U CE is already sort of annoying to understand especially when you are considering upgrades, crossgrades etc... now there's another option for a potential new user to the ecosystem.
Also, that idea would be a way of trying the full bundles for a few months in case you might want to go ahead and buy it.
But Matt has a point, a portion of the userbase who bought those for a lot of $$ could get upset altho, people who hate subscriptions and are very vocal about it usually do so out of fear of the company going all adobe and removing the full purchase option.

Why would they be upset? They already own the products and never have to pay for them again. As long as it's made clear that the bundles can still be purchased I don't see any problems with it.
