Introducing Quick tag in Traktor Pro

Ever felt like the genre of d/led tracks are simply not right?
Ever felt like energy-level on auto-pilot using MIK for ex. are not doing it right?
Ever felt like u wanted the mood of a song in your tag too?
Ever felt like u wanted the characteristics of a tune showing in your DJ app?
...But there was no simple easy fast solution?

PROBLEM
Genre tags in audio files are simply not correct.
Whether downloaded from popular source like iTunes, Beatport or d/led elsewhere,
It seems due marketing they intent to put a different tag, a less explicit genre in there.

If you google on this topic, u will see there is no real solution.
Scripts try to grab the genre based on last.fm tags or on lyrics, which doesn't lead anywhere solid.
People may even have a different opinion what kind of genre a track is.

And what about Energy level?
MIK seems to be the only automatic software out there and does a so/so job IMHO.
What about mood?

To listen to them yourself and right-clicking them > edit id3-tag, and fill in the right genre, energy & mood is a tedious job.
What if this could be semi-automated by providing a feature within Traktor Pro that provides a straight-forward approach to do this?

There is no real alternative, which lets you customize keyboard shortcuts + tags & where to write the output to, metadata-wise.

I created a customized & preconfigured foobar variant, that could be implemented in Traktor Pro itself.

So without further adue, why not implement such in Traktor Pro itself?


The Genre approach I'm showing, is how Rekordbox does it.
I believe it scans your Track collection, then when you click on the genre, those arrows up/down show up.
Which lets you select from a dropdown-menu what genre you want to assign, based on what's already present in your Track collection.
Really handy!

Also the characteristics shown on the right as a panel, is something Rekordbox has implemented.

The uniqueness in this would be the Quick tags on top (where Favorite playlists/shortcuts are displayed normally).
If you let the user define what values should be shown there, they can easily and quickly tag their tracks.

Moods for instance, but could also be Set time, Situation or Venue or when to play (build-up, peaktime, sustain, slowdown, etc.)


Preferences:


The keyboard shortcuts in combo with colors, would make it really fast for the customer to assign user-defined values and is unique.

I digged up some lists of moods, situations, characteristics, which you can view here for inspiration.
The most interesting, due based on recent science by Berkeley University is this report.
You could use these 13 emotions as the default/pre-defined for instance.

 

Snowseals is a great idea, I completely see this process the same, when we can quickly mark all the tracks in a row without going into different menus. This work satisfactorily in rekordbox (tags + track filter)
