When I was at NAMM I was hearing the Gadget wasn't that great...so I've held off on getting it.

I think I will probably get it but in this day and age I don't consider any beatmaking app complete if it doesn't have ample sample editing features. It amazes me that sample chopping is still the black sheep of the family.:|

Gadget is nice, and sounds awesome.
It does have it's caveats but I love it.
They've just updated and made it better, faster & smoother (I have an iPad Air).

Also they plan on releasing Audio tracks.

Its telling that my Maschine is currently lying next to my bcr2000 unplugged and gathering dust while abletons only use of late is to route the sound to my speakers out of my ipad. Korg gadgets has given me a new lease of life in writing music. Ultimately its very very simple to use and more importantly it is gratifying. Sure its limited and quirly with is portrait mode and it could probably benefit from audio input or a proper sampler and definitely an eq on every channel and some sort of stem/midi export and full midi control but even without my wish list I cant remember the last time i had this much fun writing music. I actually thought at very least propellerheads might port their daw to IOS having seen them dabble with IOS apps. Korg are right on it, 13 synths and two drum/fx sample players for £20!!? I am really looking forward to where this app is going.

Gadgets great...I managed a twelve track tune on it but it was pushing my ipad3 to breaking even with freezing

I think once it has midi export its going to be my goto sketchpad. Theyve done such a great job with it and seem really committed to improving it.

Some kind of sampler would be really welcome, even if it just hosted them.

Also freezing will be better when you can print the tracks to audio..I estimate I could double my track count then if aurias anything to go by.

Alex, where did you hear audio tracks are coming? That would be amazing.

They said on their twitter or smth. They have big plans for Gadget.
Honestly, I would be happy with a sampler only. But Audio tracks would be a nice addition.

just wish NI would actually do something with the IPAD.
Imaschine has been a Ipod Joke and Traktor is decent but has no function for us Maschine users.

Just look at how people are happy to pay the >$25 price on korg gadgets. If NI would create a great Imaschine for the IPAD or an APP that compliments Maschine (adding extra screen and controls) i am sure they would make extra $$$ and regain the APP costs within weeks.

Would be awesome to be able to connect your Maschine hardware to the iPad, I dont thing that it's a big deal to make such an app, iPad recognize USB inputs so...i would be more than happy to replace the laptop with a tablet...u know what i mean...? :)

There's is something coming from NI for the iPad. I don't wanna say how I know as to throw the person who told me under the bus, but NI are actively working on something on the iPad. (I don't know what it is but I know it's certainly coming)

iMaschine as it is, it's nice. They could only add Audiobus IN for sampling, and I'm good.

But if they do put out something similar to Traktor in terms of UI/UX... that would be awesome.

I think they have something on their sleeve.
I don't think it's possible to connect the Maschine hardware to iPad. It's not class compliant. It needs special drivers which probably would be included in the APP , like NOvation does, but Maschine is a power hungry controller.

Indeed, the Ipad sucks when it comes to supplying voltage to external devices, the USB connectivity can not be compared to a regular USB port that usually supplies 500mA of juice, it's very limited. As a result the regular Maschine controller simply is IMPOSSIBLE to control just by the ipad since it uses too much juice , so an interface with a powersource would be needed which takes away from the mobility and would cost extra.

Also the ipad doesn't always have the cpu power needed, probably the only one that would be able to properly power full fletched maschine software would be the ipad air, so this would result in a less powerfull application than you are used to with the laptop as they would like to make software that would run on at least the 3rd,4th and latest gen Ipads.
Storage is another issue, mind you that you would have a sound database of 6Gb easily, not counting own prooductions and expansions. Most Ipads don't have the extended 32 or 64 or even 128Gb option so that would limit the userbase.
Lastly, importing and exporting on the Ipad is always a pain. Everything has to go through Itunes or using Dropbox and therefore always requires wifi and another computer.
There is no such thing as simply inserting a MicroSd card with new samples or projects. Getting data to or from the ipad has always been a pain.
A simple microSD slot on the Ipad could have easily solved the last 2 problems.

No, i think they should limit themselves to extended data/information presentation (tracks, samples, drumsynth, chopping, etc) and some extra software shortcuts (sliders, buttons, jog shuttle) that would improve workflow with the controller.
It would require less power (cpu limits on the Ipad), less storage and manageable input/output.

As for a new Ipad product, well i'd like NI to respond to questions that their current customers have !
Imaschine is a shame and they do not reply to ANY of the questions. I did recently receive a personal message on this board from Keir concerning what's the matter with Imaschine and i replied with some questions that i would like to see answered and there has not been a single reply to this date.
I can see how they keep a lid on their new hardware, but with software for an existing platform i think it's plain dumb.
You can really light a fire amongst the maschine community and in a meantime keep tabs on them to see what they think and would like to see and use that to your advantage.

I've asked the devs to implement Audiobus into http://www.amplifindapp.com/

So, yeah, you can sample from Spotify now :D ... and other stuff :D

I would highly suggest having a work flow already in place and know it like the back of you hand before you introduce an iPad into your rig. It can be as frustrating and a buzz killer as any other piece of gear if you don't think it through before diving in.
