    Hey,

I just bought the new iPad Pro with M1 chip to use it with Traktor DJ 2. Unfortunately it doesn't connect properly and there is no pop up that asks for permission to use the controller (Kontrol S2 MK3). I connected my controller to a Powerbank and the iPad with the original USB C cable.
    Details:
    - iPad Pro 2021 12,9' (iPad OS 14.5)
    - Traktor DJ 2 (2.4.1)
    - it worked with the iPad Pro 2018

New iPads maybe will require a powered hub in between (even usb-c is more than cappable) due how iPadOS manage things. It could be also a bug on the latest iPadOS version since Apple usually wrecks these each time the deploy an update.

My first advice will be visit audiob.us forums for other users in your situation (or similar due new iPad pro). That’s the best place nowadays for these questions and probably someone will figure out the solution or some dev will confirm you it’s related to iPadOS for sure.

Meanwhile the best way to receive an answer from NI is open a ticket. That way it will generate a bug record so NI can collect info about puntual issues or general troubles with any part (their controller, app or OS)

Don’t worry too much because it should be fixed by the guitly part sooner than later in my experience but next time, if possible, don’t update to the last version if that was the problem finally.

    Regards.

Hi Sebastian, I’m in the same position as you I just bought a 512GB 2021 iPad Pro with USB C, Have you had any success? Did you ask Native Instruments for any advice?
It’s really frustrating as wasn’t to play out with it and not take my ageing MacBook
    Thanks

    Shaun

    Hey Shaun,

yeah it‘s so frustrating. I tried a few USB-C caples which didn‘t work either. We have to wait for an official software or firmware update. I‘m in contact with NI and they wanted to provide me an answer from developers, still waiting...

Thanks Sebastian, I appreciate your information, I was hoping to take my M1 iPad Pro on holiday with my S2 MK3 and play on the beach like last year but looking not likely, I don't want to change to another software/hardware as I really like Traktor. I think we are on the cusp of some big changes now the iPads are running the same processor as OSX which is amazing, if you get any updates pease keep us posted thanks again!

Same problem! I’ve tried to solve with adapters, installed the apps again connecting the iPad in a power source and it doesn’t work! We have the best equipment and a simple problem, it’s been a while already, they should have done something already!

Can you confirm that it works with the M1 iPad Pro and subscription? I just tested it without subscription on iPadOS 15 and still the controller is not recognized in midi mode. However maybe it works with the dj app subscription.

Traktor controllers have no midi function in iOS. The only way to use Traktor controllers with iOS is by using ‘Traktor DJ’. No other app supports NML and you can only switch the controllers to midi mode when connected to a computer (Mac os/windows).

    It won’t.

    Thanks for that info :)
Can you provide us more about the progress of a new software update of Traktor DJ 2 since iPadOS 15 is officially out since yesterday?

I don’t think so. It seems NI finally put some class compliance in these… (it requires booting sequence buttons btw)

About this it seems you are right and NI seems gone back to Traktor Pro updates (D2 compatibility return from “someone newslettter”) and let’s hope they are working in transforming TDJ2 in TP4 as Serato did in the past with Itch 2 int SDj… because if not, they should go the standalone route (ala M+) since these kind of problems are going to grow. M1 is based on iPad chip and macOS is now near to iPadOS than previous macOS. People here and Serato forums going mad meanwhile Djplayer/Djay Pro users have zero issues ATM…

    Back to the grave…

Yes I remember now. Thnx for the reminder.

Maybe one has to obtain a mapping file for it to work?

Not sure but afair djay pro subscription includes midi mapping learn option. Not so powerful as Traktor but remix decks aside it seems doing more or less the same features and even video + neuralMix (spleeter stems).

Idk what’s going on NI… maybe they are going the M1 route and release something for desktop/laptop instead tablet (even they had universal Tdj2 app) but since I can run djplayer pro on cheap iPhone (let’s say SE model) or iPad mini4 (also new old since yesterday 6th gen model keynote) why I will bother about what’s coming from M1? That chip is an evolution of iPad pro previous gen like iPad mini 6 seems an evolution over M1 (and middle step to M1X)…

Maybe NI is planning going the M+ route so embed standalone Traktor?

    who knows? Who cares?

I received a message today from the NI Team and they say that they tested iPad Pro's and the issue is too complex to bring an update soon.
Nevertheless they are working on it :)

Thanks Sebastian - the firmware solved my issues (no connection for iPad Pro 2021).
It might still be worth mentioning that in my case I needed to use an Apple iPad charger on the standard USB-Port of the S2 (and not the default-power supply of the rig) to get it to work.
    So setup is now:

    USB-Power Supply ----> | Traktor S2 USB-A | Traktor S2 iPad connector <----- iPad Pro USB-C
