    Hi all :),

I've the project to buy a pc or a mac to play with my traktor out of my appartment :).

I've read that the macbook is the best to avoid a crash of traktor 2.

Now, when i see the price, i hesitate a bit ... +1000€ for a 13" is really expansive for me.

If i buy a dell, for example, can i be sure that traktor will not crash during a gig ?

    Thanks :)

ive heard quite a lot about macs being superior as well, but i have heard of mac users having problems also.

personally i have a gateway I5-460M processor 2.6ghz 4gb ram. and it runs fine with an s4.

It comes down to what setup you will have? s4? s2? cdjs? etc...

Macs are only expensive because they only include the top of the range stuff, if you were to get an equivalent pc with the same components, you would find pc's would be fairly similar, for example, a mac valued at €1000 would be valued as a pc at €800, the other €200 is for the styling, the operating software and after sales care.

And macs do not get viruses, no trojans, ever...

    but its down to you.....

i have a macbook 2009 and my advice to you is to first use one system only for audio stuff DJing producing etc.. you can DJ on windows if you have 2 boot systems one for all stuff one separate for only DJing sure if you use mac os x only for DJing it will be fine the only thing that is better on mac os x (talking about the system) then on windows is latency... if you full up your mac and use it for everything you will get probably problems too...

they do and they have so this is a bogus statement.

OF course there are more virus's for windows than for osx however there is nothing inherently superior or better in a mac with regards to this... simply that if you were to design a virus then of course you would design it to affect 90% of the worlds pcs rather than the 10%

Macs do crash from time to time, thats just technology, but nothing a reboot won't cure ;)

How many viruses do you actually know of affecting macs?

How many of your friends in the past have said "my PC has a trojan"

    http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Are_there_any_viruses_in_Mac

There are no specific results of people actually getting viruses on Macs......

    http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=e...006l0l46898l20l20l0l7l7l0l209l1736l3.8.1l12l0

I have worked with macs for 10+ years, and not one virus or trojan.

It is of course possible, but as you say, it is only 10% of the market, but even a mac virus would not be effective, most of the core OS is locked by passwords that the user has no access to.

I don't want this thread to be another Mac vs PC.......but Macs just do the job, quicker.

A close friend of mine bought a Macbook Pro two years ago for about 2000 dollars. The screen stopped working two months ago, all Apple said was "It's not covered by the warranty, so pay up 600 dollars for repair or go f*ck yourself." No apologies, nothing. Some service for that kind of money...

    Never an Apple for me.

    that is just stupid!
    top of the range stuff?
apple dont make mother boards ,cpu, ram, harddrive, gpu....
they buy it from manufactors the same as pc. only when they sell it they charge a lot more. i bought an pc a year a go i7 8 gb 1333 mhz ram ati 1gb (2harddrive) 1 tb , touchscreen and it works like a charm with s4.DELL for 800£
on mac there is no touch screen yet and when i bhought this the i7 wasnt on mac yet and something with i5 and 4gb ram 300gb hard drive costed like 1500£
    better parts ?
if money wise you like to be ripped mac is your thing, now they are good machines but value wise they suck.
as for no virus, well thats because apple stopps people using a lot of things as for me i havent had a single virus on my machine as i know how to protect it and not bring a lot of **** in it! if you dont know much about computers mac is easier but if you know, the freedom that pcs gives you is priceless!
and remember over 90% of computers are window based and thats notwithout reason!
if money is of importance than go for pc but make sure to buy a pc with the right parts!

I didn't say Apple MADE the components, they are predominantly a software company, I said macs INCLUDE the top of the range components, and PCs are cheaper because the manufacturer do not make or supply an Operating System, which makes the PC useless, they have to rely on Microsoft to licence them software.

Of course Macs are a little expensive, because the OS is more stable than Windows as it is built on the Linux platform as you know. If there is something wrong with your mac, you can take it to an Apple store where they can look at it, do Microsoft have dedicated stores? If they did, and you went in with your broken PC and they found it to be a hardware issue, they wouldn't be able to help you and would just point you in the direction of the manufacturer, at least with Apple, you do have a store to go to, and that is why Macs are that little bit more expensive, so they can invest that money on customer care, advice and invest on bringing out innovative technology.

I'm sure as a percentage, PC's that go wrong is quite small, so I guess Ive just had a LOT of bad luck with them, before switching, I was constantly seeing "Trojan" "Virus" and "AVG has stopped potentially harmful malware", now, I don't even worry about it, I am able to use my laptop easier and faster.

As for protecting PC's, you say you know how to protect your PC, you mean you've installed yet another piece of software that is running in the background to notify you when it has found a virus, I have no anti-virus software running, I don't even have the built in firewall on.

    I could go on......

Well, there certainly seem to be more problematic PCs than Macs.

I run a PC and S4 is fine. Required some tuning to get the latest version of Traktor working but it's solid now.

basicly you can get the same components on pc like cpu mother board , gpu and ram and it will cost about half as much! thats not a little more expensive.
but as everybody says if think of using your laptop pro for work djing than keep it dedicated to that! and you wont have a problem.
to be honest if you using anything under 1000£ than laptop is the better choice as u can arm it with i7 8 gb ram good gpu and having enough harddrive( 1tb and above)!
technology changes quickly if you want a machine that lasts some years get the highest spec possible!
for that amount you get an i5 4gb 500 gb hd and no dedicated gpu from mac!
i have allredy just about 700 gb music and than there is other music stuff i got there 500gb is to little this days. i5 isnt i7! 4gb does the job but you get an smoother ride on 8gb. and no dedicated gpu?
as for support dell has a support , the best part is for about 100~£ i got full accident and ... warranty for 3 years! that means if i spill a drink on laptop(lucky enough it didnt happen) they will fix it(home collection!)! not sure if mac support cover that?

but than again i like my toys to have fire power and i like to keep using them for as many years possible that measn future proof it with the highest hardware spec on my budget.
