Is FM8 ever going to play nice with Reaper?

The controls on Easy page reset themselves every time the host (Reaper) queries the plugin for its state of controls (on getEffChunk). This is not good behavior at all, and it actually puts me off using FM8 in my favourite host (which I don't intend to change).

NI should at least admit that it's a bug on their side and that they are going to fix it (because it is very obvious that it's a bug on their side), instead of closing topics like this.

Does this happen with other DAW's? If not, then I would suspect Reaper to be the culprit. I have no clue either way though.

Based on reading that thread you provided, it does indeed sound like a Reaper issue.

    Happens in Cubase 5.1.1 too.

Except it's not Reaper's issue. All other plugins work normally when Reaper queries about their current state via effGetChunk (this is all for displaying parameters and transferring their values to active envelopes, etc.) NO OTHER PLUGIN resets their knobs when they are only being queried for parameter values! Reaper is NOT asking or sending any new values that would reset the knobs in FM8, FM8 is doing it all on its own - because I suspect something strange was coded into it that would make knobs reset on effGetChunk.

One of Reaper developers said: "The problem, in short, is that the host calling effGetChunk causes the plugin to reset the "easy morph" controls."

And also: "You move something on the GUI. Reaper then asks the plugin for its state. The plugin responds to the request by changing its knobs. I am certain that the plugin itself changes its own knobs when it is asked for its state.

If this isn't happening in other hosts they must have some different method of doing things, but it's the plugin's bug that it is responding to a state request by changing its state."

And this exact bold+underlined part is what needs to be fixed in FM8.

When I go to the "easy" page I cannot change any of the parameters....they reset themselves instantly. Is this what you are referring to?

    I'm x64 win7 and reaper 3.6.0 (haven't upgraded yet)

Hey I just noticed that - why did it get closed in the first place?

I would love to see this fixed, I could do so much more with FM8 and my Novation SL if the controls didn't reset. Someone from NI commented recently that FM8 is still a supported product, so lets see some action on this NI!

Any other Reaper users should add their name to this thread. If enough people shout someone might take notice.

since "I" already confirmed this....allow ME and MYSELF to shout about it

Did anyone report this on the reaper forum? If not I'll try to add it.

I reported it to reaper just in case. Also, I can confirm that it works as expected in Sonar 8.5.3 (x64) win7

That's weird, my post just disappeared. At any rate I did write it in over there to see if maybe, somehow the two sides can be contacted and come up with a hopeful fix. Haven't really been using FM8 much of late but that is definitely a draw back.

Anyone with Kore - if you run it inside Kore the problem goes away

    Hi all,

New to this forum, but wanted to chime in with this information:

The problem seems to be happening in Ableton Live 8.1.5 as well, on Windows 7 Pro.

See also this thread on the Ableton Forums:

    Best!

That's interesting - hadn't noticed it before as I tend to use FM8 in Kore anyway - it doesn't do it exactly as with Reaper (when recording automation) but I presume the save of project forces it to do a "getEffChunk" in the same way undo points do in Reaper

It might be worth now rechecking some of the other hosts that were thought to be working OK but using this method

The problem is using automation. It's not really possible because the controls on Easy page constantly reset themselves.

Add me to the list of mildly disgruntled FM8ers.
