So I purchased a gently used mashine studio. Before installing maschine I hooked up power cord and usb to my iMac and powered it up. It displayed the normal black maschine/production studio screens. Then it started getting blurry and glitchy. The right screen turned white then at this point the left screen turned white and the right screen seems normal.. I now have transferred all software etc to me and everything seems to be running and functioning as it should. The only issue is the left screen is blank/white. Did I kill it by plugging it in before i installed the drivers? Did I buy a bunk unit? Is it possible it could be driver or software related? I now did a clean install of el capitan on my iMac with nothing else and installed maschine only and still the same issue. Previous owner said it worked fine. Any help would be appreciated.

You possibly got a bum unit. Try downloading the latest firmware for the studio and updating it.

Try plugging it into the power without plugging in the USB cable and see what happens. I forgot what mine says when that's done. Haven't used it lately. I think it just shows the Maschine name on one screen and production studio on the other. See if the screen goes wonky with power only.

Its been changing as i was trying things like reinstalling drivers etc. like at one point it said maschine and production studio at the same time on the right screen. but now ive done a complete fresh osx and maschine reinstall. I think currently it will turn on normally with the black screen/production studio on it l. all normal accept the left screen is blank/white.

I did update to the latest firmware already. Is there a way to reset the firmware?

Originally 10.9 when I tried to first plug it in. NI tech support said I should update to el capitan so I did and that didnt fix anything. So I wiped the whole computer and did a clean install of el capitan version 10.11.6

I spoke with tech support and ran the NI diagnostic tool and sent that report back to them. Emailed pictures of the issue and a description of the issue. I havent really heard back from them. Im assuming the unit isnt covered under any warranty at this point, Im really curious what the issue is. It would have been pretty easy for them to say its out of warranty broken hardware.. The person I bought it from says well figure it out if it ends up needing repair. It really doesnt seem like he sold me a defective unit. It really is in new cosmetic condition.

Try everything everybody else said first. Also try uninstall/reboot/install latest Maschine software.

Otherwise my pure speculation would be that there is a ribbon connector or something connecting these screens within the unit, and it has come unplugged or damaged. It might just be a matter of opening the case and making sure all the cables are connected properly. I've never done this myself. Here's a video that could help, not sure:

But don't do it unless you are fairly confident and your warranty has expired / nothing to lose.

Yes, tried another cable and port. No luck. I was thinking about checking the ribon cable connections to the screens Ive just never read of anyone else having that be an issue yet.

Well I didnt want to open it up unless i had to. After 2 days of wiping out my computer and customer support and drivers etc etc. it was a loose ribbon cable the whole time. Well problem solved so now I can move on to the fun stuff. Thanks CakeAlexS for the dissection video.

honestly i had the same problem, for me it was the usb cable. But i didn't purchase mine used, for some reason my usb cable didn't fit snug in the port, i can't remember if it was NI cable or not but i know i found a usb cable from way back in the day, one of those white ones that came with my old dell pc with the fat monitors LOL, and it work perfectly.
